I am wondering what kind of AR upper you would like to see or your gun or in your safes ?

I know shorties a getting rare, specially quality ones.

Is there something mainstream 5.56, yet special you want on your Christmas list ?

I'll tell you what I don't want. HBARs, or M4 profile. Don't get this obsession with M4 cuts, they're useless. I believe that Noveske is doing it right with his new N4 barrels.

Things that I do want;

They should be government profile or a medium contour under the handguards,

Taper pinned FSB should always be an option,

1/7 twist, M4 feedramps, metal should meet MIL-B 1159, chrome lined.

I personally prefer 11.5" over the 10.5's, but 14.5" without M4 cuts are nice as well.

Stainless are nice as well, easier to customize because they don't need refinishing, no chrome to chip or peel. I would prefer something tougher than 416, like 410, beadblasting is a nice option, and FSB should still be an option.

Chambers should be 5.56mm or perhaps .223 Wylde would better suit the majority.

ETA: Don't forget about middies. I'd love to see a good midlength that duplicates the GI dimensions forward of the FSB. In other words, you could mount a bayonet and it will sit in the proper location. All the current 16" midlengths are about a 1/4" too short to allow proper bayonet mounting. Again, government profile or a medium (.750?) contour. Anyway that's my .02 cents worth, do with it what you will.

I would like to see the N4 line available here. 14.5" and 16" middy as well as the 10.5" and 12.5" following shortly.

Those barrels are kick ass.

I would also like to see LMT back in all lengths. I can wish right.....

Aww, you can't vote for more than one option... I'd like a 10.5" and a 14.5" I think they look slick. Providing there aren't too many bells and whistles on them. I'm a KISS kind of AR guy.

I would think most of us have a whole list of AR uppers we'd like to get. Choosing just one is kinda hard. My first choice though would be a 10.5 - 11.5" barrel with low profile gas block covered by a free float rail handguard. It would go with some parts I have kicking around that are waiting for a build.

12.5" in stainless,gov profile

You cannot have thin SS barrel because SS doesn't dissipate heat as well as chrome moly steel - it needs the mass to soak up the heat or the temp goes off the roof and the barrel dies.

I second Palinski - CHF barrels with extended feed ramp. ( hint, I am saying Noveske N4 , ain't I? :p )

Way to kill my dream GT...:p
I have seen 16" heavy dissipator barrels in stainless, would love a cut down one of those then.

I've heard that before, yet Olympic have offered a lightweight stainless barrel for years. I make no claims as to its longevity, just throwing it out there as FYI.

I want the shortest 9mm AR upper that is possible.

But outside of that, and if I manage to get some time......
I have a couple of interesting designs sitting on the CAD system in the shop. Very kewl looking, and a functional and simple semi-auto design for a 9mm upper. The design attempts to get as close to the look of an S&W M76 SMG, while using a complete AR lower group with the required 9mm additions.

The overall length will be similar, but receiver group will be, of course, as per an AR lower config. Skeletonized folding stock, (left side) and perforated barrel sleeve highlight the design.

A similar kit was designed & marketed by Bill Holmes many years ago, but I believe this design improves and simplifies his initial design; It also bring the "look" to something that I see as more traditional.
