What upgrades are a must have? Glock

Lots of good metal guns you can upgrade to once you're ready to remove the training wheels.

Pretty sure shooting a 'metal' gun IS training wheels.

For holsters get a dedicated kydex holster from a reputable manufacturer like Bladetech, Safariland, Solely Canadian etc. Don't waste your time with any of the universal fit holsters or anything with an index finger release ie. Serpa, Opraz etc.

As far as "stuff" goes

"NEED"

1) ammunition
2) holster (Solely Canadian)
3) sights if you've got the plastic factory ones, since they can wear when drawing from the holster. In the short run the factory 'biscuit in the basket' sights can be greatly improved by blacking out the basket (white outline on the rear sight - it'll make you shoot better because the basket is just a distraction from correct focus)

"CONSIDER"

4) reloading press, bullets, brass, powder, primers - just in case you find ammo becoming 'import restricted' but also because you'll shoot more for the same money
5) An Uplula - thumbs are people too.

Other Important Stuff:

"TRAINING"

learn how to properly run the gun, from someone who knows how to run the gun. Training is an absolute hoot, you'll meet great people and develop a wider and deeper understanding of shooting. To me training separates the shooter from the serious shooter.

"LONG TERM"

You might want to get a couple of recoil springs - although Glocks are stupid reliable - some mag springs and a spare striker assembly for each gun. Be aware that you probably won't need these parts until you're north of 25,000 rounds. The mag springs will go first (virtually no one talks about these unless they shoot a lot, but they make or break reliability) then the recoil springs. Somewhere beyond 50K your striker may go south.

1911 fan boys are like the mechanic guy that is constantly fixing his old truck. It’s the best thing ever, but it takes 20 hours a week to keep running smoothly. I prefer not having to spend more time tinkering than shooting.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I am looking to have the finger grooves removed from my G19 as well. Does any shop in Ontario do this kind of work?

As an owner of several Sigs and CZ's shooting my Glock 17 Gen 5 was about as enjoyable as picking up dog poop when the dog has a bad case of diarrhea  Horrible ergonomics felt like holding a 2x4 sideways.

A little research led me to Nomad grip modules for the Gen 5, I wanted to keep my Glock because I have PCC's that also use Glock mags so I picked one up a Nomad grip module from Saskatoon Gunworks and that changed things 1089734380743287487493274932874985609846% there is no comparison between a glock grip and a nomad grip and now I totally enjoy the Glock now

Mine came with the ameriglo sights which are so awesome I picked some up and put them on my P226

1. Timney trigger
2. Dawson precision front

Everyone shoots better with an upgraded trigger and the Timney is in all my guns. Best single upgrade.

Glock Factory night sights are under rated. I got a set that were taken off a new 19x for $40. The night sights on the 19x are lower than other glocks and it works well for my POA and shooting distances on a G44 and G34.

If money is tight get a Dawson front and black out your factory rear with a sharpie. Their sight calculator is useful for figuring out what sight height you need. I used their calculator to figure out that the G19x night sights would work for me.

Shoot it stock and see what you think. Put a few hundred round through it and then decide on what you like or dislike. Save you money and buy lots of ammo.

Done and done. 2k rounds coming.

I am concerned that stock in parts might plummet to nothing, if they decide to ban those as well.

That'll mean your Glock might only run properly for 50-60,000 rounds, it's easy to over do the parts question.

100%. If you can only afford to stock pile a few thousand rounds of ammo then there's a likelihood you will not need to use any spare parts prior to running out of ammo if you're running quality gear. It definitely doesn't hurt but it likely won't be necessary.
