I am looking for a gun to shoot gophers with and I want some ideas from the pros on a cool gun to buy, something different that you all love personally. Already have a 10-22 Ruger in my collection. Give me ideas...

I dont as of yet but would like to learn how, i have other family members that do so it wouldnt be hard to learn, just come up with some cash for the tools

.223 are nice and accurate. Tikka or Stevens or any bolt action w. scope. just watch twist rates if only for gophers, some of the 45gr ammo will overstabalize in a 1:7 twist, so go for 1:9, 1:10, 1:12.

NEF Superlight, Tasco 6X24X40 chinese Bipod 50.00 at Canada ammo with 1in 12 twist 450.00 rig... WWB 45 grs at 3600 fps, my own give me under an inch with that set up, cheap to shot and very accurate... JP.

I myself would also suggest a .22 hornet. A little difficult to load but you can cast your own bullets and keep your costs right down. The rifles you find them in are pretty cool too. I suggest also looking for a .22 WMR. Cheaper then the .17 HMR and a pretty good little round.

Oh yea. A nice CZ 527 Varmint in 204 or 223 and if you will not fire a hundred round a minute there is the american or lux with a great choice of caliber including hornet, 222, 221 fireball etc. Those CZ's are beautiful, accurate and not to expensive. Don't forget that there's a lot of used very nice used rifles out there. Personnally i own a LUX in Hornet and another LUX in .222 will come in soon. Good luck.

Crap there must be at least 3 of these running currently and at least one a week for the last year too. Read the old posts guys there are MANY of them.
That said I have a CZ527 which is actually a completely redisigned Minimauser action made specifically for the little cartridges like the 223. From what I see on their site my CZ452 22 and my CZ527 are exactly the same weight. They do really nice work and the gun is a delight to shoot as well as pleasing my eye. Its a 223 of course. I reload and there is so much stuff I can get for that case it blows my mind. Aside from it being a superb cal for varmints or just plain fun shooting. The kids love it.

If gophers are your target of choice I'd say you can't go wrong with a 223. If you reload there's lots of components around if not you can always find ammo. Lots of rifle makes and models to choose from so you should be able to find something that appeals to you. Also if you ever hanker to go after coyotes the 223 can be effective at mid-range with proper loads - if this is a possibility I'd recommend a medium heavy sporter weight barrel as opposed to a varmint bull barrel.

There is a nice one on the S&W site with a huge scope and monster barrel @ 1300$ i forgot the name though check it out! I'd post it but dont want to push my browsing luck at work hehe :)
