I was lucky enough to pick up a storied Ruger “ finger groove carbine” in .44 mag for $240. Still have it and wouldn’t sell it. I was 16yrs old and it was 1984.

Remington 760 in 30-06. Bought it at, of all places, at an RCMP auction. Yes, you read right. Also available at said auctions were all the knives you could pick up with 2 hands for $10.

This was mid-80's.

Browning BLR 300 win.

I just acquired an old Winchester repeater from my fathers earlier days, 33 years later and it still functions like a dreammmmmm!

Bought a Rem 700 BDL with a custom barrel a timney trigger and a lee loader from my Uncle Larry! I was sure it was better than the Model 94 my Dad had given me for my 14th birthday.

Having had use of quite a range of family owned firearms before that, my first personal purchase was a 12 bore Browning DBBL (which I used with slugs) and my first new rifle was a .22 LR but this poll seems to want centrefire big game calibres only. Still, I can't change the facts.

The "fact" is that this is about your first big game hunting rifle... not shotguns and not rimfire... if you have purchased centerfire rifles, the first of those is what applies.
