What was the reason behind specifically banning .25 and .32 calibre ammo?

I was curious as to what the reason would be for doing this? The new FN 5.7x28mm ammo was banned and the reason given was because it is designed specifically for defeating body armour.

But why .25 and .32? I believe that both of these calibres have been around for like 100 years, so they aren't new and special.

If anyone has the reason or a guess at one for why such ammunition would be specifically prohibited over others?

I apologize since I assume this has been asked before, but I couldn't get any results by searching the numbers.

IIRC and I might be wrong, but those were the bullets most commonly used in the "Saturday Night Specials" back in the day when the gangsters and hooligans were going around shooting people. Then when they banned the evil guns and banned some of the evil baby killing bullets as well. A stink came up because alot of Olympic target shoots and other people used those calibers so I dunno what came of it. Another lovely knee jerk reaction from our liberal govnt. We really need to shut down the illegal import trade of .25 caliber bullets....

Take this with a grain of salt please while throwing 0.02 cents at the floor.

its simple they wanted to ban cheap handguns

do you know lebaron had 35 $ 32 acp handguns...

look now a new handgun is 600$ now

the more expensive they get the less pepole want them

5.7x28 isn't prohib

I take it that the P90 is the 5.7X28 AP round which is specifically banned.

Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a commonly available semi-automatic handgun or revolver and that is manufactured or assembled with a projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to be capable of penetrating body armour, including KTW, THV and 5.7 x 28 mm P-90 cartridges.

It is ironic in that, they banned those calibres because they "had no sporting purpose", but they made several exemptions for target shooting pistols in those calibres.

...Essentially, it was because the rounds were designed for the very smallest of handguns, and therefore the most easily concealed, and presumably those most attractive to the Criminal Element. In addition, since both had be around for close to the 100 year mark, there were already a fair number of old and cheap guns around and believed in the hands of Criminals. Also, neither was one that was in common "sporting use" other than a very few specialized Olympic type target shooting disciplines (.32) thus an easy, no pun intended, target. ..... welcome to Canada and C-68, what did u expect it to make sense???

explain to me why some firearms are restricted simply because they are black?

again, another head scratcher

"...why .25 and .32?..." The same reason 4" barrels are evil. It made an entire class of firearm illegal with one law. They created the myth that criminals were using those calibres as the excuse. Originally, they didn't make allowances for high end .32 calibre target pistols either.

Why were "nunchuks" banned? Because someone felt something had to be done. The "imperative to do something" usually trumps the "imperative to do something correct".

And Rock has some nerve. At the very end of "tax-season", that arrogant, self-serving, remorseless embezzler of public funds and trust actually had the gall to claim that the Registry was underfunded, and that it was the Conservatives who were to blame for not continuing the work of the Liberals (i.e. the continued propping-up of the bloated disaster).

With all due respect, Rock is representative of those people who have "messianic-like" delusions in terms of how they approach their positions as social and political representatives - and as members of government. It is a very "preachy", ends-justify-the-means, "I know what is best for you" attitude - and it is both very irritating and very denigrating.

the ammo isnt banned.. you can still get it.
I have a .32, and its just prohibited. it just means no new ones can enter the country.
you can still reload for .32 and .25.. the factory bullets are on the store shelves where I get my reloading supplies.

the pistols were banned because most of the .32's and .25's had the ability to be concealed in a persons pants pocket. I can put my .32 in the fron pocket of my jeans and its very hard to tell whats in there...

its a little harder to hide a 9mm, .40 or a .45
And in my opinion, all the 12(6) thing did was create a list of guys with "old guns" Im considering selling mine.
