Worst rifle was a theoben eliminator
For a break barrel air rifle its was crap
Sold it for more than i paid for it
So was happy.

Bought a beretta trap O/U in 3 1/2 inch chambers
But the 20 inch barrels were too long
For game shooting. My inexperience

So everything else i have i am more than happy

Best: Original matching 91/30 PU sniper.
Worst: Some Norinco firearms that were made for US import in the late 1980s and turned out to be absolute junk. Not ALL Norinco firearms are bad. A Mosin M38 from a sponsor that was not at all as described. Covered in black paint and the floor plate came open after every shot.

Most memorable purchase: Finding a unit marked Gewehr 71.84 that is unit marked to the unit my great great grandfather served and in service at the same time he was there (makes me wonder if he held the rifle at one point).

Least memorable: Finnish captured Mosin 91.30. Band springs did not allow the bands to press freely so it was PITA to take apart. Shooting with hand loads was all over the place and the bolt wasn't the best fit to the rifle. Despite tightening the action screws, they would always back out after one or two shots and make everything quite loose. I was quite happy when I sold it and got a refurbed 1943 Mosin that operates much better.

I don't think I had a worst Milsurp purchase. I had many worst non milsurp purchases. Maybe the 4 No 4 Lee Enfields I bought for 175$ being was only good for parts.

Bought a Norwegian Krag once. The barrel looked OK, but was not - the thing keyholed bullets of any weight at 25 yards. Totally shot out.

Very pleased with my SVT. Shoots well, and is the noisiest thing I own.

There should be a time frame in this thread since prices have gone nuts since I started shooting (1964) so maybe we should qualify our responses with the phrase "at the time". For instance, I bought a beautiful walnut stocked 1918 BSA No1. MK.III in almost pristine condition which had probably been made just at war's end and never issued and then sold into the civilian market. Paid $200. at an estate sale for a rifle worth easily six to seven hundred. That's my best recent deal. Worst was a supposed Long Branch No.4 all original. Turned out to be a put-together mixed bag of English, Savage, and Long Branch parts and even the serial number on the bolt was suspect. Looked like it had been ground off, re-blued, and re-stamped. Nicely done though. Seller claimed he bought it like that from an estate sale. I couldn't prove different, so I ate it. I did manage to sell it as parts and made my money back plus a few (very few) dollars.

Best M1 Garand friend gave me a killer deal.

Worst : Remington 742 in .243... couldnt cycle more than 2 rounds in a row... cleaned it thoroughly many times.tried a different mag and various ammo... sold it to another member at the club who has all the Rem semis in every calibre.

Best .50 cal M3 100$ made a fortune on it a few days later.

Worst an Italian veterli 1916 conversion, looked good but the bolt was cracked. Lost money on it.

Best: My first rifle, and the one that got me addicted to milsurp. A finn refurbed 1917 Westinghouse M91 Mosin. I had so much fun searching up and down about all the markings on that gun, and have learned so much in the process. I've spent a lot more on guns since but none have brought me the joy of discovery that it did, although an 1853 Snider Enfield came close. Also snagged an original trenchgun for a great price off of the EE many, many moons ago. That was a happy occasion for a gun I would never normally be able to afford. Picked up a hi-power with most of the decal, it cost me, but it a very proud addition to my collection.

Worst: A TT33 tokarev I bought from a member here that was beat to #### and wouldn't feed more than about 2 rounds in a row. Then the mag would stick in the gun. None of this was mentioned at the time of sale, very disappointing. Hated it, and felt burned by the whole experience, and sold it at a loss with full disclosure. This was before cheap and abundant toks were available, so I jumped on it for the rarity, but it was just a turd. Fortunately my experiences with the firearms community have mostly been far more positive, but it's sad and sobering to realize there are some real ####heads amongst us. Speaking of good gestures, I also had a parts bin SKS I bought from SIR. The barrel fell out, but they replaced the gun with a cherry Chinese one. Great service.

Best purchase was a Beretta UGB25 Xcel - my favourite shotgun.

Worst purchase was my first SKS. It just refuses to feed.

I've had some good ones: Inglis Bren and Longbranch Sten I traded my Breda Garand for, mint M1917 I picked up for $380 three years ago, mint Ross M-10 I paid $750 for two years ago etc

Bad: seems like any Ross 1905-R I've picked up. Almost always a bulged shot out barrel.

Worst XCR-M ( world class jam pit) and Mini 14 ( 12 gauge 00 buck shot grouping...
Best all the rest... JP.

Worst: My second SKS, a '52 Tula re-furb, bent barrel, paid $220 plus taxes, non-returnable.
Best: My third SKS, a '50 Tula re-furb, most accurate SKS I own and zero failures in 1500 rounds, $200 plus taxes.
