What was your best and worst purchase?

For Worst: Finnish M28/30 which wasn't as described (broken stock which made it unsafe to shoot), Semi-Sported Norwegian Krag which had a corroded chamber, Ross R-10 which even though it had a mint bore, was keyholing at 25m with a variety of different ammo (would not shoot proper).

For Best: Swiss 96/11 which started me on Swiss rifles, or my Mosin Nagant 91/30 which was what really got me into Milsurps.

Best purchase?Definitely Carcanos, both M91 and M41.After cleaning both turned out very accurate and predictable shooters. Worse? I don't regret a single gun buy I ever did so none.

So many great ones... probably the best was an original .455 1911 for $800. Very nice Finn M27 for $150. SA-marked CZ38 for something like $300. Intact crest Romanian VZ24 for $300 ish. 1932 Colt Woodsman for $300... not that incredible a price but damn I love the gun. Oh! And an all original M1A1 carbine for $1000.

Worst was probably a severely misrepresented Snider I bought for $500 from a board member. Ended up cannibalizing a few parts for me carbine and selling it as a wall hanger for alot less than I paid. On the whole I've had a lot more good than bad.

Best - 1943 full stock Longbranch Enfield FTR'd Fazerekerly 1952 still with cosmoline in barrel. $75 when the registry had just coming in and people were dumping firearms rather than go through the BS. Still a good deal if you update to present day loonies.

Worst - An SKS that functioned fine, but barely shot minute of moose @ 100 metres. Got it for free and swapped it out for an AG42B and a firearms test. Sold the AG42B because I got tired of organizing a search party for ejected cartridge casings.

Best: Unfired Inglis No 2 Mk1* from La Barons. I knew the guy behind the gun counter, and he just happened to be looking through all of them one slow day. Bored, I suppose. Sooo.... he called me right then and there and said "Get your azz down here lad, you have to see this." Put her first rounds downrange at Connaught one fine day with the Camerons. I will never sell this one. Oh yeah, did I mention... $325... if I remember right.

Worse: Remington 7600 "Jam-0-Matic" Carbine... bought from a friend for "the hunt"... gorgeous rifle!! Nice and short, light, 18" bbl, powerful 30-06. Wouldn't feed to save it's effing life. So sick of it buddy stopped me from throwing it into the beaver pond up past Burnt Dam that year. Stovepiped on a ten-pointer. Yep! Fun!
We all know: (1) Missed Deer = (1) Cut tail off hunting shirt .... and of course... the entire rest of the trip suffering the constant BS from "your betters" ....

Best: Glock 17 and P226R

Worst: Polytech M305... What a piece of garbage. Finish on metal and plastic was horrible but didnt care about it. Took it to the range: problems feeding, not accurate at all... Kept it for a month and sold it.

Best - Romanian contract vz24. No crest, but a good shooter and an action that feels nice and tight

Worst - 'unrefurb' SKS from Westrifle. A nice looking specimen, but clearly refurbished as evidenced by the pinning of the bayo screw.

Too many bests, but most memorable was a surprize purchase of a Martini Austrailian Cadet that I had planned to rebarrel and sporterize. Turned out that the bore was excellent with beautiful wood. I restored it and it shoots my handloads inside 2 inches at 50 yards.

Worst? Easy, a Kel-Tec sub2000. Constant FTF, FTE, a safety that engaged on its own, damaged bore. Lesson learned: research your EE sellers and if in doubt, inspect in person or don't buy!

Most bayo screws were snugged down before aresenal storage, refurb or not.

Best: A pristine S&W 645 with 7 mags for $600
Worst: Brand new Mossberg 715T. The only safe place to be around that POS, was standing directly in FRONT of it!

Worst: I bought a Marlin lever action long barrel in .45 Colt. I put a couple hundred rounds through it trying to find ammo that would do better than a 20" pattern at 50 yards on the bench, prone, standing or whatever. I sold it back to the store three days after I bought it.

Best: I went to my LGS (site sponsor P&D) and shouldered every O/U shotgun they had in the store. I went to four more stores including WSS and Cabela's to try everything there too. I ended up back at P&D and bought a Franchi Alcione 12ga with extra 20ga barrel set. It's the only shotgun that has ever fit me so flawlessly and it'll be the one gun that'll have to be pried from my cold dead hands (not that I'm giving up any others either) and even then I might be buried with it. No BS... I haven't decided yet.

Best and worst purchase:
Vast majority have been good experience, but what has always stood out for me has been the sellers character.
+ Ithaca 37 from other side of the country, shipped same day the money order was dropped in the post.
- Ithaca 37 from upper Canada, should have been sold as a parts gun, missing many....
Trader rating helps identify the bad ones.
Please share your experiences there without pulling punches!

It's possible as it's a Russian, but I have seen enough non-refurbs that didn't have that to lead me to believe that it is a very light refurb. Unfortunately there isn't enough documentation on the process in order for there to have a consensus on the matter.

At the very least it's a nice looking rifle.

Cheers.
