I bought a .303 British in a Sporterized Enfield in the summer before deer season, the guy who sold it to me said it shot well. Being 15 and inexperienced, before shooting the damn thing I refinished the stock and gave it a cold bluing job.... I must say it looked real good and I was proud of myself, so was my dad. Then we took a series of groups at the farm

and it shot like ####. My old man took me back to the guy who sold it to me and made sure I got my money back (at 6'2 and 275 lbs and built like a brick ####house, he made a convincing back-up   )
I worked like a bastard the rest of the summer cutting grass at $5 - $10 per lawn (I am talking big country lawns, not those little city folk back yards!!!!) and saved my money. By fall I ordered a brand spanking new Rem 7600 in 30-06 (Is there ANY better Caliber!) 8) from S.I.R.... I still remember plunking down all those crumpled $5, $10 and $20 bills on the kitchen table to my mother so she could make a cheque out to mail my order to S.I.R. I still have the original Bill of sale somewhere.
I will never forget unwrapping that box and lifting out a NEW rifle, MY rifle. Every Deer season she is the first one out of the safe and the last one back in  ... People say that pumps aren't as accurrate as bolts.... She shoots 0.5" groups at 50 yards and 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards with reloads (I have been reloading since 15 years old) Not bad in my books.... I shot my first deer with her, come to think of it.... I have shot all my deer with her.... Whenever I take my back-up gun (usually when dogging) I either miss

or never get the same opportunities!!! maybe the old girl is jealous and puts a jinx on my lever!!!
Memories.... eh? That was 19 years ago. Today kids want it all given to then... instant gratification. When you work hard and earn something, you never forget it. I would never sell my 7600, it means so much.
Thanks Todd for the trip down memory lane....
