What Was your first deer shot with?

It was in November 1966. Winchester 94 30-30. 4 point buck at 60 yards...shot him in the left hind foot...

He was scratching his ear at the time..

A Ruger M77R in .300 Win. Mag. with a Bushnell Banner 4x scope using Federal 180gr Hi-Shok ammo. Boom! Flop!

Factory loads have come along way since then. Now you can readily buy factory ammo with just about any type of premium bullet. Makes hand-loading maybe not as necessary as it used to be.

Can't recall which was the first, but it would have been with a nice old Churchill Gunmakers No.1 Mk 3 using good Dominion .303 British from the local hardware. 1965 SE Saskatchewan. Still have the rifle, still hunt in the same places, 51 years later.

22 LR Brno semi auto. One bullet hit a neck artery and it started to drown in blood. It was finished off with a Savage 1907 32ACP in the head. I was 14. Was partridge hunting during a very heavy snow storm.

First legit kill was a #4 Sporter with 180 gr RN hand loads the next year.

Jeez Ganderite, it's hunting, not a mob hit!
So far you have the best 1st story, as well as remembering that we used to be able to carry handguns in the bush.

Nov.2nd 2010 7:30am Ruger M77 MkII RSI (International-Mannlicher full stock) .270win w/ Bushnell Elite 2-7x32 with scope on 4 power. Whitetail doe walking quartering away to the right at 255 yards (confirmed with laser later) from kneeling position the 130gr. Federal Fusion entered behind the last right rib, through right lung, dead center through the heart, through left lung and out between ribs and just behind left front leg. The deer ran with tail up for about 3 seconds/20 yards like nothing happened then stopped, turned around and looked for where the sound came from, then tipped over.
All on foot, no bait piles, no heated stands, no surveillance cameras. In my opinion a more enjoyable, true hunt instead of ''harvesting from the farm".

pre 64 model 94 in 32spc, 75 yards ish, I thought I missed and shot again, deer didn't move, not a twitch, shot again. I put 5 shots through the lungs and the little buck stared at me for a solid minute before I got angry, got a better rest and shot it in the back of the head as it turned away. when my dad was showing me how to skin it out I was able to cover all 5 entry wounds with the palm of my hand and the heart/lungs were literally mush.
