What Was your first deer shot with?

7mm remington mag in a nice 700 bdl that I wish I never sold (ain't that always the case)

I hate to admit it but I fudged the shot, pulled it left and instead of nailing the vitals hit the buck square in the front shoulder blade, both upper front quarters totally ruined unfortunately but he didn't move a step and stopped breathing very quickly.

Second-hand Midland .30-06. Somewhere out there, it's now third hand or more. A classic "starter" rifle. Cheap, but an accurate shooter.

First deer! That made it memorable!

1970 to 74 maybe . Full wood enfield 303 , I think it was 1919 or 1921 production ????? At our favourite little spot . Buck hit at about 75 to 80 paces . Fell at 100 ish paces
And technically this is my 2nd year back to hunting . 1st yr back to real hunting , Looking for a deer willing to comply with my 1921 94 in 3030 or my ishapore in 308

A .303 British from a 1942 Lithgow Lee Enfield. I'll never forget it. Winchester power points. My dad and brother pushed the bush for me. A whitetail doe blasted out of the bush and her path gave me a running broadside shot (I hate pushing bush for that reason). She was running as fast as she could. I was able to make a beautiful heart shot, but she still ran about 200 yards and collapsed at the fence line. What a blood trail. It looked like a motorcycle track in the snow leading straight to the little heap of fur at the fence.

Whitetail doe with a Sako Finnlight 308 topped with a Leupold FXII 4x33 scope. I guess the Finnlight and the scope were unnecessary because the next year I shot another doe with a stock SKS and $20/box Prvi ammo. Just because!
