What Was your first deer shot with?

Shot my first deer at about a hundred yards with a Savage 170 pump .30-30, topped with a cheap 3-9x Simmons. Shot three shots (lost one out of the mag tube when it jammed), put one into each lung. It dropped about 15 yards away in the woods, a 3 point buck.

Cooey single shot .410 slug. 10yds. 4pt WT buck. Double lung. He went 5yds. I was 13. Dad dang near killed me! It was in season (1st day), on crown land, but I didn't have a tag, nor was I even legal to hunt deer alone. Not for 5 more days would I even be allowed to hunt deer at all, let alone by myself. Next year, 20ga, double lung, 20yds. VERY large doe. Legal this time.

With a Tikka 55 .308 Winch, a close shot not more than 20 yards. Since then many guns have passed my hands (this Tikka is sold also), but a .308 still is one of my favorites, now a T3 SS.
I have a sickness, buying and selling rifles and shotguns and scopes/binos. But with age it seems that I will be cured, at least a bit. Tend to keep them far longer than before.

The first was shot with a bow... Hit her in the spine & that was that.

The second was shot with a 7mm Rem Mag.

Cheers
Jay

.35 Whelen with 250 grain Remington Core-Lokt's. Him and another buck about the same size both came into my Dad grunting. The distance was a generous 15 yards.

This is what me and my Dad put together after.

It has the date burnt into the wood, the tag and the empty brass hanging off the antler. Beside it is a framed picture. Nothing fancy, but every time I look up from my desk and see it, I remember that cold November day...

Originally I was going to use the antlers for rattling, which is why I cut them off the skull plate...looking back I probably shouldn't have.

In 1943, a .30-30, Win. 94 saddle ring carbine, metal but plate, stock stamped "City of Toronto" barrell shot out, bought for $20 by my father when 16. Shot two deer, 10 point buck and a spike buck, one shot each on the first hunt, Baptese Lake, Ont. from the old then operating rail line.:)

Oh, to have that rifle today!

Parker-Hale #4 .303 Brit. 180 gr round point remington (only deer I ever shot with factory rounds)
Large 5x5 buck at about 80 yards. Both lungs, went down in about another 80 yrds.:)

Ruger mini-14, iron sights Federal 55 grain soft points. Fired 3 rounds at the does head as she ran by and she stopped about 75yds away. She stood for a bit and continued eating , when my buddy yells " she's eating , shoot her again." Next shot hit her spine, and she dropped like a rock. Ran up to her and put the last round behind her ear. Not an ounce of wasted meat, or a gutshot to clean for my first deer.
