What was your first?

I shot my first f-class match 2 years ago with a sporterized No4 Mk1 (.303Brit) with a b-square scope mount and nikon buckmaster scope that I screwed on the night before (note I didn't say sighted).

I didn't know anything, hit even less but had fun despite the brass butt plate.

I've since progressed up the factory chain with a Rem700P, Near Base, TPS rings, Bushnell 4200, Jewell Trigger etc.

I'm going to try to shoot out this barrel before next round of upgrades to barrel, action, etc.

Does a Rem VFS lh 223 count?? Was lucky enough to pick up a brand new old model from Russel sports during their closing out sale for %50. Plan on putting a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 tactical on it.

First precision

The first precision rifle (1/4 moa) was a Ruger M77 in 220 Swift.
It came with a Douglas Barrel and was previously part of a set of 2 rifles that the owner had done, the other was a 7mm Magnum for long range, he'd had them both built for him.

The Swift used 40GR Hornady Amax and Vmax bullets with 39.9gr of powder pushing them. It's basically a .308 case with .22 cal bullets in the front.
The Rounds averaged 4350 f.p.s. and kicked up more dust than a .308 this rifle was absolutly deadly at 3-400 yards. Scope was a bushnell 4200 elite.

I sold it to a guy that needed it for coyotes on his parents farm.

XR 100 was next , a buddy and I had it built then he ended up selling it to me, my 11 yr old has it now.

My first pecision rifle was an Anschütz Model 64 Silhouette that my Dad bought me when I was about 15. That's when I was shooting rimfire silhouette quite a bit and used that rifle for several years before I ended up with an Anschütz Model 54 Silhouette. I still have the 54..the 64 lives in Dad's safe - not sure how that came to pass.

Well we were up in my bedroom, she was in a hot bikini...

OH! guns... :D

My 93GL. Yep, a "measily" .22wmr got me hooked on the BA rifles. Then I got addicted to power a few years later... c:

The first rifles I shot that could be considered "precision", were "someone else's" No4 (T) and PH C3. The first "precision" rifle I bought with my own money was an Anschutz 22, thirty some years ago. A series of wildcats after that, and then a "Frankenrifle" when I decided that hitting things at longer distances was something I needed to do (mid 80's I guess). Built on a very early 700 action, 40X bbl, one of the first HS stocks I ever saw in AB. Still have that one, still shoots well, although I have modified a few times since then. After that I decided that experimenting with different calibers was fun so I went with switch barrel rifles, in more calibers then I can remember. Couple of years ago I got interested in BR, the ideal old fat guy sport. It's been a fun ride so far, probably could have bought a few houses with the money I've spent on my hobbies though. - dan

Don't know that I ever had anything too precision, but started F-Class with a rifle so ugly as to be called "The Mongrel". Some of you will remember it as having a ceramic barrel developed by NASA. Others know it was painted with white refrigerator paint. Later it sported red paint at the muzzle after a recrown job. A true F-Class rifle.

Another was a butt ugly Musgrave in a recycled fullbore stock and topped with a Tasco Tactical scope. Another true F-Class rifle.

Both come with a good track record, and high mileage. Would anyone be interested in the two as a package for $5,000.00.:)

I am new to the game of precision shooting. Alot of nice rifles used for starter rifles!!

I have been working my way up to building a rifle, and look forward to it. Hopefully the student budget gets a bit bigger, then I should be ok. Until then I will have to work with what I have.

I started out with my Ruger M77 HB in 243, all factory, topped with a tasco world clas 4-16x40. Does what I needed to do with it. Sub MOA out to 250. Plans on leupold 6-18 maybe next year.

My next investment was a Savage 10FP with Choate varmint stock, topped with swift 8-32x50. Really nice rifle, only been out to 525yrds, but able to consistently get 0.6MOA out there (if I keep up to scuff with practice).

And my most recent rifle would be my Rem 700 VSSF in a 22-250 and is able to shoot better than me. Need to tune the trigger some, but it is a real joy to shoot.

By no means custom/precision rifles, but it has been a progression. Since I don't have the luxury of getting rifles for only one purpose I haven't been able to bring myself to get a rifle only for paper (some day). They all have to function in the field as I really enjoy hunting.

My first smallbore precision rifle was a 180/64 action in a match 54 action match rifle stock, set up by my father. in 1967
The first center fire was a long branch with PH sights - still have both rifles.
