What was your most exciting find while hunting?

found a 30-30 just of the trail hunting up north . The rear wood was busted and the metal was all rusted. Brought it home cleaned her up and put a new stock on it and turned out to be a good shooter.

When I was very young I was lost and without direction and while wandering aimlessly I found the sport of hunting. This was a life changing find and has led to many new friends found along the way as well!:)

About 30 years ago, a small lake, which although less than 1/2 mile from a bush road, was not at all visible from the road. During the early years after the find, the lake provided excellent fishing for rainbows up to about 2 lbs. It was about a 15 minute canoe carry through the bush. Unfortunately, within about 5 years, others also "found" the lake and cut a road in for ATV's. Eventually, folks with 4x4's bushwhacked their way in with aluminum boats and outboards, gang trolled most of the fish out of the lake, and left an assortment of garbage strewn about on the shoreline...end of story.

Many years ago my fahter had a knife which he detested.
It5 was a good brand, William Rogers, but the danged thing would not hold an edge for three cuts!
Being the sort he was, he would not give it away to anyone, because if it wasn't good enough for him.. well, you ge the picture.
He wouldn't throw it out either, as that would be a waste.
So, he kept it as a belt knife for opening cans and stuff while fis Russles stayed in the pack until serious cutting was in order.
One year he was on stand, and it "conveniently" fell out of its scabbard.
The next year someone came into the cabin after the hunt and said "Hey Bob you're not going to believe this, I think I found your knife!"
DRAT!!
Well, in 1980 I was cleaning up the shop and found it in the junk box, commenting on how well it was designed.
In one breath he said " can't cut butter with it twice! You don't want that."
I told him I wanted to rehandle it in antler for practice, so it went home with me.
I put it up for a blanket prize at one of our BP shoots, someone saw the brand name and it was first off the blanket!

I found a Winchester 1895 leaning up against a tree on a remote ridge here in the BC interior. It was a mass of rust and the wood was split all to hell. I left it were it was sitting for someone else to find.

I also have found several knifes around different gut piles I have come across. To this day I find it hard to ignore ravens circling a particular spot! LoL

One of the most interesting "finds" was a young couple I came across who were making out on the tailgate of the truck on an old deserted landing. Of course me being the smart ass I am let the fellow get down to the short strokes before I fired off a shot in the air. I don't know if I helped or hindered him. ;)

I found a Winchester 69A with the butt stock bust off.It was hanging in a tree by the trigger gaurd out of the weather.I still have it,it bought a stock for it and my son used it to shoot at the Artic winter games in Yellowknife.I think that was in !987 or 88

I wasn't hunting, but wandering around in the woods behind an old abandoned farm and found one of these:

It was pretty beat up, but all there. Sorry, no bren gun! No soldiers, either... :D
No, I'm not kidding!

That reminds me.. I discovered something like that twice, once was only a month or two ago.
But the first time, I saw a couple in the woods (or should I say the wooded area next to the university) whne I was about 15, I had the front sight of my pellet gun trained on his ass as he was getting head. Then I thought "no, that wouldn't be the right thing to do".... er I mean "he looks to be in good shape, I don't know if I can out run him" I am kinda glad I didn't pull the trigger, I could have poked an eye out had I missed his ass.

Found a GPS.Wet to the closest waypoint which was a tree stand about a half mile away.Left it in the stand.A few days later I went back stand and all was gone.Bet he thought he left it in the stand.

I kept finding such "young couples" under a picnic blanket whenever I took a shortcut at night on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City.

My only best find was a very nice lockblade that I found while on training in the reserves at Valcartier. I still have it today.

The first time I ever went out hunting was with a kind fellow from another board who was willing to take a newbie out hunting.

While making our way through the woods, we came upon the site of a deer killed and eaten by wolves. There was nothing, I mean nothing left besides the lower part of one front leg, and hair spread over a 25 foot radius.

A few times I've found spent cartridges on the ground, and always wondered if the shooter got what he was shooting at...

I found a husqvarna chainsaw that had sat out for at least a season when I found it. I left it there and came back a year later and it was still there. I took it home, asked some guys who knew who did the logging last in that area and nobody claimed it. I dumped the gas, put fresh stuff in and it ran fine.

I was west of Sundre AB in the Yaha Tinda Ranch hunting Whitetail, walking right along the treeline with Sheep above me and dozens of does just inside the tree line. Anyways, I spotted a green plaid scarf so I picked it up and put it in my pocket. As I looked up I seen a Wolverine trotting down the hill and across the trail about 20m in front of me. The bugger never slowed down, just glanced once in my direction to see what I was and went on his way.

Seeing a wolverine that close in the wild was awesome and my most memorable hunt (although I never found a buck, just does :D ).

Man.. Some great finds. On the way out to one hunt.I found my girlfriend and her friend walking home from an all night party with two other guys. Broke my heart. The look on my two buddies faces as we passed them will stay burned in my mind forever.:(

It's not really that interesting...sad actually. Out here on the Sask. plains moose are not that common. We had a huge bull roam our land for many years, and I always enjoyed as a kid walking with my dad looking for his sheds. The best was finding both under a thrashed tree one winter...a little kid couldn't get any happier.:D Eventually, two cows moved in, and soon enough there were little calves roaming around. It wasn't uncommon to see them grazing around when doing field work. As years went by, that big bull got bigger...I mean he was big to begin with, but now he's trophy size. A few muley seasons ago I happened onto his carcass in a ravine, with the head missing. The cows and calves are now missing due to "year-round privelaged hunters", and the wildlife is sparse. I came face to face with that guy numerous times down at the creek. He wasn't spooked, and always understood I wasn't there to knock 'em down.
Pissed me off big time to find that carcass.
