Vacuum bagging can be an additional layer of protection to oil/grease.

Dont use wd40, for the love of God and all things you dont want rusty..

Not standard WD-40. They make a number of different products, and the one that works best for preventing rust is called

"WD-40 Specialist Corrosion Inhibitor"

Birchwood Casey's Rig grease. You can look it up. I has really good reviews. I use a thin coat on guns that aren't going to be used for a while.

Hot dip into Cosmoline, then bury in yard in 6" x 4' PVC pipe.

That's for very long storage. Don't forget to bury some ammo with it.
