What will be hunted next?

I honestly do not know as the whole lion thing was arranged for me by the Bongo outfit, he had heard from a mutual friend about my Zambian experience and was extremely disgruntled about the whole fiasco. He then went ahead on his own and arranged this lion hunt with another operator, friend of his who was also very distraught to hear of the great Zambian fiasco, and then presented it to me kinda as a good will gesture at a very reasonable price. I truly do not know where it is or who I'll be hunting with, but did very specifically ask if it was high fence and was assured it was not.

I was quite amazed at all of this as the great Zambian fiasco was none of their doing or related in any way to them, but they felt it reflected badly on the whole African hunting scene, in general. And he told me that there was too much of this type of sh!t going on, and the PHs needed to take more responsibility and more financial risk with the client, or they felt they would see a drastic decline in hunting in Southern Africa.

Good show, straight shooting and have fun. I've taken both my boys when they were young and they had an experience they will never forget. #1 son actually made his own arrangements and went back on his own a couple years ago. He's got the bug............

Ah yes, the great Zambian fiasco, well notlim2424, to put it in a nut shell, I paid $60,000 US dollars to hunt and supposedly harvest a free range big maned Zambian lion in the Luangwa valley. It was all booked with one of the top three Southern African players and in 14 days I never even saw a lion, big, small, male, female, cub, nada. Did I get a discount.....no, was I a happy hunter.....no, was it my fault.....no. Oh but they consoled me with assurances that although I did have to pay the $5000 dollar licence fee I would not have to pay the $5000 dollar trophy fee!! This is the long and the short of the great Zambian fiasco. There was more, like the 13 ft croc that shrunk to 10' when the tape hit it. I took a leopard that turned from a large male to a small female when it hit the ground etc....etc....etc. And then there was the tse tse flies that took a particular shine to me (they too must be alcoholics). My blood must be different than everyone elses, they bit the sh!t out of me to the point the PHs took photos of my legs. They said they had never seen anyone chewed up so bad in all their years of hunting the Luangwa! Then there's the 55 deg C everyday dropping to a bone chilling 35 deg C at night which made sleeping impossible, God I love hunting in Africa..................!!

And then sometimes it gets bad.

Dogleg...............the eternal optimist!! Are you the guy who coined the phrase "Murphy was an optimist"?

Apparently that wasn't quite harsh enough, as I have now willing booked and paid to go into the jungle with 50 deg C heat AND 100% humidity, crawling with all kinds of nasty bugs and other assorted bities. All for some stupid red antelope that no one's ever heard of. You should see the looks I get when the average Joe asks when I'm going back to Africa and what I'm going for and I tell them this Oct for bongo in the Congo.............

I have decided that if you ever find yourself in the woodstock, Ontario area, you are going to contact me and I will supply a very good bottle of single malt to help soothe the pain from Zambia, while you tell me the story.

See the PH's aren't the only guys that can feel guilty and help you out. You do have to change your story though, because I am going to be holding onto a $300 bottle for you until you get here the total is only $59,700 for the experience gained in Zambia:redface:

All kidding aside- the offer is serious and I think I would very much enjoy sharing a bottle with you. I can share your pain slightly, I also had a very nice leopard loose his balls and about 50lbs somewhere in between the shot and her hitting the ground:eek:

A friend of mine who has hunted alot (to give you an idea of how much his trophy room is featured sci's book "great hunters and their trophy rooms") Hunted Bongo in Brazzavile and said it was the brutalist hunt he ever did, fungus growing all over him, leeches the size of snakes crawling into his sleeping bag, mosquitos big enough to fight him for his gun... I'm sure you will have a blast-it's a hardcore hunt for sure.

I am sure you figured out that is why I was gently probing about the lion, to see if you had the experience to know what can happen over there to seperate a guy a from his money, and to try and help out if I could. It is abundantly obvious now that you have paid your dues.... and then some!

Oh notlim2424, those are just the highlights. When I arrived at Lusaka their rep wasn't there with my gun permit so they seized my rifle. Next day when Duffus finally showed with my permit and we went back to the airport, it cost me $2000 US dollars to buy back my rifle, scope, spare scope, binos and knives (all in my gun case). They called it importation tax. I'm sure you know what I called it!
I shoulda quit right then and there and hopped the next flight back to SA but noooooo, I wasn't that astute.
I let my buddy book our flights, he neglected to inform the airlines I would be travelling with a firearm. That very nearly ended the hunt before we got out of Can, another huge cluster f---!
And so it goes on and on and on.........
This horror story is only a small step down from my Great Mongolian fiasco, but that's another fiasco and story entirely.

The same goes if you're ever in the Yukon and I'll buy the single malt.

Spending a ton of money does not make for a great hunt, that is a surprise to me.I would think they would do back flips for you to get you to get other hunters to there place!!
