I'm plannin' to save my pennies and get a decent 1911, but I am kind of wincing, thinking about how much it's gonna cost me.
Am I worrying for nothing, or do you think they're gonna jack prices up for the centennial? Perhaps some will and some won't, (I can't say all will go the same way) but I wonder if supply will suddenly become scarce too.

Any predictions? Especially around Colts?

Perhaps there will be some centennial colt models, but in general there's absolutely no reason other than inflation, why they would increase in price. It's not like the Gov't is granting them antique status or anything. But just in case, buy now ;)

Guns will be more expensive next year, and the year after that and the year after that. Don't worry about the what if's.

100th Anniversary of the 1911

Likely "100th anniversary" special runs or models will command a premium.

But for basic 1911's I think we should be in good shape with our dollar coming on par with the US dollar.

NAA.

The other typical factors such as supply, demand, and exchange rate will continue to affect prices far more than the centenial. I wouldn't worry about it.

you say youre looking for a "decent" 1911 - in my opinion, (provided your not looking for some collectors or other 'special edition' model) you should go to Armco and have a look at some of the tune ups hes done on the Nork pistols.

Norinco frames for the 1911's as i understand are very very strong, and are a great platform to build off of - ideal for the penny pinchers like us ;)

If the Canadian dollar continues to stay at, near or above par with the US dollar, I wouldn't worry too much about prices rising. Besides, there's nothing you can do about it anyway.

Colt and a few other manufacturers (Kimber, Para, Taurus, maybe STI, etc.) will be offering a limited number of "Centennial" models. Unfortunately, the majority will be made for US consumers, not Canadians, on a first come first served basis. The price of these models will be high since demand will be high and supply will be short (basic supply/demand economics).

Hey, maybe we can get Steyr to do a special run for the hundredth anniversary of THEIR 1911, which I still think is a better gun. Likely not, though: I didn't see any special runs of Lugers in 1999, 2000, 2006 or 2008 for their important centenaries.

But then I'm not very observant at times. I even missed the End of the World at least twice that I know of (1967, 1973) and likely I will miss it again in 2012 when the Long Count returns to 0.0.0.0.

Still, it would be nice to see a tastefully-embellished Colt 1911: gold trigger, original flat backstrap, finished just like a pre-War-One Commercial. Pretty. Maybe even do up a few in .455.....

snip....

While a Steyr 1911 is certainly a cleaner gun, I don't agree from an ergonomic standpoint, besides I'm not sure a top loading clip fed gun is the way to go in today's world; especially after seeing one unload by accident....

I think I was the first person to transfer one under the new system, it took about 6 months....

I'm not a big fan of the anniversary models, especially Kimber's!
But we'll see what can be afforded when the time comes, and hope the Canadian dollar stays strong.
I'm not worried about the natural price going up as I understand it does every year, I just hope manufacturers aren't planning on cashing in on the significance of the year 2011 and jacking up the price based on that. :dancingbanana:

With the Canadian Dollar going the way it is....you're probably going to get a sweet deal on whatever it is you want!!! :D

Armour

That is what I used to think also, if only the dollar would go up then I can get a really nice rifle/pistol for what our American cousins can get them south of the boarder.

5 years ago when our dollar was worth 63 cents you could buy a browning blr in 30-06 for about 800.00.

Today with the dollar at parity you can buy the same gun for 850.00.

So either there was been an inflation of 37% in the last 5 years or somebody is pocketing the difference.

I have a nephew that works at wholesale sports and I can get any browning rifle from him for cost or about 40% off.

Funny how that number is familiar.

I bought some primers in Montana 2 weeks ago, 24.00 a 1000 . Stopped in to a shop in Edmonton yesterday and the same primers are 45.00. It costs double to have them shipped here? don't think so.

There must be exorbitant amount of overhead in the business in Canada.

Ok, my rant is over. lol
