Blew my back out yesterday, so I'm laid up on the couch, really bored. A buddy and I have been chasing this brute for a few seasons now. Having set up a camera this year, we've got him a few times. These are the latest pics. What do you think he'll score? I'm thinking high 180's, low 190's, my buddy thinks 200+.

You need to go set up a couple of blinds right now instead of worrying about how he'll score! Imo, both fo those bucks need to be on the ground this fall. Worry about how they score after you've got a belly full of fresh meat :)

Hey Anglinfool

Great buck!! I killed one that looked just like him in 06 and he was a clean 6x6 went low 170s gross. I would say your buck is a little bigger but has the same problem mine does which is tine length. I would guess 170s gross. Hope I'm wrong and you post the score when he is on the ground!! Good luck.

264magnum, that sounds a little more realistic. Hopefully he's got a couple inches left to grow. We've only managed to spot him a few times during hunting season, and he's always a LONG way out, or running from us:redface:.

I got a nice 5x5 in the same spot a couple years ago and this year a few Elk have hung around.

Healthy looking animals.

Now that I would be interested in seeing, we are in the Falllow and Roe Buck seasons at the moment. The Roe rut is ending and we are seeing less of them. Whats good is that we are seeing lots of does ready for November the 1st.http://1.bp.########.com/_dNsG90O46bk/TGga50wnoBI/AAAAAAAANLI/iX7FXgUQWQ0/s1600/DSCF0009.JPG
The Fallow Bucks are in velvet still but still in fine fettle.

I'd say 170" is pretty realistic. Although its hard to judge from though pics, but he may be bigger or smaller, Be able to judge better when he's shed velvet and packed a few pounds on.

Even so he's a great trophy, hope you get him.

I told my wife if I get him, she better be prepared for a new trophy to be hung up front and center. She was less then impressed, but I think I won! This would be the first trophy outside of my man room.

Don't want to get ahead of myself. He didn't get that big by being dumb. We have a pretty good idea of his range and habits, but it will take some serious luck and alot of patience.

Be nice to drop one of those Elk if they hang around. This is the first year they've stayed so late that we can remember.

Tim, those Fallow deer are pretty cool.

Great buck for sure but unlikely that high....170ish I would think...Would love to get a crack at him...

That would be a great addition to house. I will go with the rest and say low 170s. Good luck on your hunt and Straight Shooting.

I gross estimated this deer at 166"

That is with 25" mains 24" inside spread and 5.5" bases. I think I was being generous. Either way he is still a great buck and even better story. Especially with the history and pics that could be hung up beside the mount.

good luck

W.

Thanks for the responses gents. Its funny how we scored him so high. Nice to come back to reality.

I actually wrecked my back jumping out of the tractor when we retrieved the card from the camera. Of course as soon as we got back, loaded it into the computer, the beers were cracked and the BSing started. Robax and beers are a great combo! The 170 quickly turned in to 200+.

Thanks again guys, I'll update the thread when/if we get more pics.

You gotta love velvet...strip it off and I'd say mid 150s net. Not much tine length but one heck of a pretty buck. Possibly low 160s but I doubt it.

I saw one near my place about 5 weeks ago that looked similar to that, but still had "bulbs" on the tips of the tines. I'd like to get a look at him now, he should be a pretty good animal.
I'm back in Canada late next week, and will try to get a picture of him.

Kind of what I was thinking, but I will say it would definitely have a 30 calibre entrance wound and about 60 on the exit if I saw it this fall.:D

Thanks again for the replys guys. Going to swap cards tonight.

There have been a few more big bucks caught on cam in the area in the last couple weeks, but I don't know for sure the owner would want me to post them. One is a 6x6 similar to the one above but taller, and another is a TALL 5x6. Looking pretty good for one of us to get a wall hanger this season. Last year was all meat (still a great year!).

What are your thoughts on the apparent abundance of Whitetails, where this area has pretty much always been a Muley spot. Are the Muleys getting outbred? I set the cam up there looking for Mule deer but there have only been a couple scraggly ones.....
;)
