What wood is this stock made of?

This furniture is what the new to me CZ 550 Standard is wearing. But I don't think this is walnut. Is this walnut or something else?

Should be walnut. I have yet to see a cz 550 with beech. The cz 557 is a different story though, on those ones i have seen beech.

I searched to see the kind of wood used for 550 Standard models but no real info. Different opinions here too so I still don't know. I am leaning toward beech. My other Cz rifles with what I know is walnut look different than this 550.

Beech certainly is not better than walnut as far as I am concerned... it is very plain and doesn't take stain or finish very well and is widely used by factories because it is considerably cheaper than walnut...

it sure looks like Beech..... take the recoil pad off and see if its white wood underneath...

I have had one that looks like that and it was a light coloured euro walnut.

It's harder then walnut, like I said, it's not as pretty but it is harder, so it makes for a good rifle stock, just not pretty as you mentioned, doesn't stain for #### lol.

Fully agreed on that. Walnut for looks, beech for stability.

CZ-USA gives the wood as walnut.

Beech has closed pores.

This is a Beech stock, sure looks the same grain to my eyes.

Take plate off and look at the color under there, I don't think it is walnut ( or piss poor walnut maybe)
I have had real good results staining beech, and birch, with a commercial alcohol stain sprayed on, in thin coats till you get the shade you want, Water stain is much the same.
