What would be the best GPS?

Thanks guys But another question is it really worth all the money? Do you really use it that much? This would be used for deer and moose hunting. Also is it better to get one with the built it radio or is that one more thing that can bugger it up?

The Rino's are awsome units that link two people together easily. Again each unit can be pricy and you'll need two at least. The most basic GPS will allow you to walk all day and not worry about where you parked the truck or where camp is!! within reason. The more advances ones will show your position on a map and show all there is to see around you. Street maps of topo's are uploadable on the better units.

It is all about need and money. I really wish I could afford the Garmin 60CSX but I could buy 5 e-trex units for that price, an for me the e-trex is plenty!!!

There are a few sites in Canada that will help you learn.

GPS city
GPS central

decent prices and lots of links to help you lears what this all means!!!

Etrex Legend is what I'm using now, its the basic one with the black and white display, and I think 8 megs memory so you can upload maps.

I've used several different GPS units over the years including $5000 Corvallais March II for survey work. The Magellen units I've used I really didn't like, some of the earlier garmins were really junkey too. The new stuff has a lot of good features.

But now with my GPS, I use it mostly to lay out trails and basic mapping. Actually for hunting I just remember where I've been, carry a compass, and backtrack when required.

If I go into a new area I may carry the GPS but rarely use it for anything.

If your going to get a GPS get a Garmin

Hi Magnum Gurly:) I have the Magellan explorist 300.I really like the features it has and iI think it is around $149.00 at wally world. It has some of the major highways of course the map of the U.S. is a little more defined.I take mine out when I go scouting in the off months turn it on do alot of driving and
it charted the perimeter of my hunting area.Any time I am walking in the bush
I can look at it and see where all the roads are, direction I am heading, ect.
the thought of getting lost scares the $hit outta me:eek:.So I think it is money well spent. As for use I take mine whenever I go scouting or hunting.which is probably 30 days a year.I can't warrant spending a pile of money on some thing I use that much, but that is just me.Also my kids $15,000.00 worth of dental work won't allow it either:(.My choices would be the magellen 300,garmin etrex,I also like the rhinos with the built in GMRS radio.
good luck:D

I have a garmin E-trex They go for around $125.00 gets me in and out no problem. I would reccomend a GPS to everyone that hunts. If I was going to buy a new one now. I would go to the next one up with mapping capabilities. They don't cost that much more. Still make sure you take a compass with you. It will always work where a GPS won't always.

Dave.

Hunting

First year I went hunting... thought I knew which way i was turning here and there I was going in the right direction back to the cabin, when I came across a creak... thats when I decided to check my compass... Lo and behold I was going EAST rather than going WEST!!... ok to make a long story short. I bought a Garmin Rino 120... It's great, has downloadable feature for upgrading to minimum memory chip. I have my route to all the best hunting spots i found up north. Anyway... I recomend that one, but depending on your wallet you can find anything that suites you.

I really think that you should raise your sights a little, though. Ask for jewelry, or something like that.:p
