What would it take to make a 10/22 cycle perfectly with subsonic ammo.?

Hey folks, thought I throw this one out there. I like to keep the gun's report down when I'm shooting .22s at the farm, and have found that Federal Premium Gold Medal will feed pretty reliably in my 10/22. I am wondering if there is any modification you can do (kit you can buy?) to make a 10/22 cycle most subsonic ammo. I realize the race seems to be towards faster/more powerful, has anyone successfully done this mod?

Thanks for taking a moment to respond,
Rob

I polished all my internals to a mirror finish and it seems to cycle all ammo even subsonic ammo smoother and more consistently. The only other modification I could think is cutting a coil or two out of the charging handle (I personally have never tried it so I would not recommend it)

i bought a kidd charging handle that fabsports sells comes with 3 different springs, i personally havent tried it out yet, but there is one for subsonic ammo, normal ammo and one for 17HM2.

Do 10/22's commonly malfunction with sub-sonic ammo? I have several of them, and they all function very well with Remington Sub-Sonics, and in most of them it is very accurate. Most are modified, but some aren't. Never had a problem.

My 10/22 Target Tactical has gone through about 500 remington subsonics without any jams/fail to feeds and only a few misfires....all factory.

Mine functions fine with the Federals, but after 20-30 rounds, I start getting some FTE. No fun charging it after every shot. I've also tried some Eley that simply wouldn't cycle the bolt.

Might try that bolt mod, but would almost prefer to try it on a spare bolt. Any idea on where I might find a cheap/factory bolt? Has to be 1 or 2 people here with a spare one! =)

You can easily modify a 10/22 to cycle subsonics by rounding off the bottom of the bolt where it contacts the hammer. This makes it strike the vertical hammer higher up as it blows back, giving the bolt more mechanical advantage and allowing it to compress the stock hammer spring more easily. I used a belt sander and a polishing wheel with diamond paste to do all mine. Search for radius hammer mod.
