What would my No 1 Mk III* be worth?

Howdy,

I have a No 1 Mk III* that has been sitting in my gun cabinet that has not had a shot through it since I bought it over a year ago, and I do not see this changing anytime soon; maybe it could use a more loving home. I was thinking about selling it, but I am not sure what it would worth. The info I have off the rifle are:

Wrist: Crown
GR
B.S.A. C2
1917
SHT L.E.
III*

Left side of receiver: FTR 1953

Brass disc: 1 AA 2
. 1 (think it is a 1)

Top of the receiver: England and the serial number is high 20,000.

It looks rather nice, this is the reason I bought it in the fisrt place The magazine is a little loose, but I do not think it would affect function; I have not even had the time to cycle some rounds through it.
I know it has been rebuilt, hence the FTR 1953, but I do not know how much a gun like this would be worth. If any of you have an idea, it would be most appreciated.

Also, I have a bayonet that fits it; it is in what I consider good shape and has been sharpened sometime down the line. Any help on the value of this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Corey

Depends on the condition of the wood, the blueing on the metal, etc, etc. How many serial numbers match?

From what you've described so far, I'd say $250-$350 depending on condition. If the wood is in really good shape, and the finish is nice, the bore is in very good shape and the serial numbers match on the bolt and reciever, I'd say $350.

If it's beat up, $250.

If it's been 'bubbua'd' $150

That's just my general opinion, some more experienced collectors may see things differently.

Corey,
Looking forward to the picts.
Does the FTR stamp look to be of the same font as this by any chance?

The FTR 1953 is etched on the other side of the receiver, but it is not white like what is marked on Timberlord's rifle.

Very nice looking FTR! From what I have seen I'd say $350.00 to $400.00 but that is based on what I have seen in prices here and there. Sometimes nice ones can be had cheaper but they are like a lot of other surplus rifles, getting harder to find nice. I wouldn't mind having that one myself. Joe

I have one that has the same FTR markings, same font, and year if I recall.

its also C^ stamped.

oh and that is a nice rifle, $400 would be top end but someone might bite at that price.

Agreed. A nice rifle, and someone would bite at $400 it would just be a matter of time. $350 or $375 would make for a quick sell.

PS, Corey, if you're selling this baby give me a heads up. :p ;)

Also, by 'all intact' I am assuming the bolt, reciever, mag, and maybe the nosecap all match.

Value..... we like they say, it's only worth what someone will give you for it. As a colloector piece IMHO it's not really worth that much (you asked) and the main reason is that plug where the "Ishy" screw was. For most Canadain collectors, that's a killer. As far as being a nice shooter and something to fill a slot in a small collection, sure, you should be able to get something over $250 for it in it's condition, but if you find someone offering the numbers these others have mentioned..... well, don't look a gift horse in the mouth so to speak...

I have seen a number of III* rifles with the FTR 1953 mark. They were all refinished with Suncorite on all the metal parts, and were stocked up in new beech furniture. There must have been a large batch of them done in 1953
I wonder if your rifle had been sported, and was then restored to service configuration? The Indians didn't patch over the head of the reinforcing screw. Just a thought.

Next time I have some extra funds I might look for a nice smellie with an ishy
screw. 250$ seems like a heck of a deal and the ishy screw makes it affordable and actually makes it stronger.

:D and a good investment, judging from the way prices have been going up.

I picked up a few sporters for $25 each :D now they are worth a fair bit more then that, even as parts.
