What would you buy?

I have a Mossy 590A1 with ghost rings and generally like the gun... except for the ghost rings.

I bought the gun on the advice of certain tactical centric personalities, but have sincerely come to resent the sight recommendation.

It renders the gun almost useless for skeet shooting or any type of rabbit hunting.

Sure the sights are good for slugs if that's your game, but the barrel is not rifled so there's better for that.

I'd recommend that you forget about ghost rings, get a front bead, but make sure the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope rail. (like the 1301) Then you can add some sort of red dot sight for slugs, or take it off and use the bead for fast movers.

My all time favorite shotgun is outside your price range and that's the 24" Beretta 1301. I recommend that you save up for a 1301 and you wont regret it.

You can't quad load the 590 but you can with the 1301... big time.

I hate the sights on the Black Water version. Stupid addition to that SG imo.

There are so many "tactical centric personalities" today it's become a joke. Very few I pay attention to for advice.

Simple bead, XS big dot, Wilson Combat GR's and rifle sights are the only SG sights to bother with imo. Red dots & scopes are a different conversation.

I got one of these brand new several years ago. By far, the worst made, and least accurate shotgun I've ever fired. I got rid of it after firing only 10 rds through it, and kicked myself for buying it in the first place. The pawn shop I sold it to for $150 USD, sold it the next day for $250 USD! Why? Because it's all cheap "bling," and looks pretty. The "heat shield" is as thin as aluminum foil, and is only for looks. If you press on it, it will leave a permanent dent. The accuracy was SO bad, that after adjusting the rear sight as far as it would go, it contiued to shoot slugs 12" low and left at only 25 feet!! What a POS!!! The cheap a** barrel expanded so much from the heat of only 10 rds, that I could not remove the barrel an hour later, at all, even two guys together could not pull out the barrel! I finally got the barrel out the next day... The bolt, and bolt assembly is a joke! no moving parts, and looks like a kid made it out of gray silly putty. The action arms seem to be made of cheap aluminum. Crappy trigger.

When I called Dickensen, they were jerks, and told me to send it back to them, and they would "fix" (no offer to replace) it, but I would have to pay for the shipping. After arguing with them for several minutes, they finally caved in, and sent me a pre-paid mailing label. However, I sold that piece of crap long before the label arrived. Although it was Turkish made, I will NEVER buy or own another Dickenson firearm. They're customer service is terrible, just like their overpriced products.

Although I think Turkish shotguns, for the most part, are pretty well made, this Dickenson "Marine Defender Tactical" was obviously pulled out of the 'rejects' trash pile in the back of the factory, and then sold anyway.

Weatherby's "PA-459 TR" is Turkish made, and was licensed to Weatherby. An amazingly well-made, and accurate shotgun. I have four of them. Search that on this website, and I have a much more detailed description.

Well this one’s only nine years old! Gettin better!!

I'm upping my budget from the maverick 88 range to $800-850 for a "tactical shotgun".

I've been out of the guns for a while and don't know what's awesome anymore. I'd like to hear your options of what a guy should buy. My requirements are pump, black, ghost ring sights.

What does CGN think?
