Hello,

I could not figure out how to change the title on my other post so i will start a new thread. Here is the old thread:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183943

I want to buy a new rifle. I have approx 1000$ excluding scope and would like your opinion as to what you would buy and why.

So far I am thinking about the Savage 114 Classic and Euro Classic the CZ 550 American and 550 LUX or the Tikka T3 Hunter or Delux all of which will be in the .300 Win Mag Area

What do you guys think?

Thanks

P.S. Bishopus, Thanks for your insight!

Gotta vote for the CZ-500 American. Mine has shot 0.7-0.8 MOA out of the box with four different brands of budget .30-06 180gr ammo so far, and everything else was 1.5 MOA or better. Can't wait to see what it does with some premium stuff.

Nice wood for the money, 24-inch barrel standard, a good recoil pad and classic Mauser controlled-feed as well - I love mine. :D

Forgot to add it has integral square-bridge mounts and very good rings that come with it - save quite a bit of money right there, too.

On your rifle question, of the choices, personally I'd go with the Tikka. Excellent rifles.... ;)

I would consider all rifles of the same price range to be very comprable in quality & accuracy. Handle them all & pick one that fits you & just feels right.

After saying all that, personally, I too would recommend a Tikka!

Of those three I'd vote for the Savage. I like blued steel and walnut though. Take the money you saved and put it towards a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8x or a 1.5-5x (I like the 1.5-5 though).

Of those, I'd pick one of the CZ variants, which should come with a factory test target...mine did
Excellent CRF rifles. I think my next hunting rifle will be a CZ 550 in 6.5x55...not that I need it...

I'd get the best priced of the three and put your bucks towards good glass. There is no such thing as a bad hunting rifle - in a good name - for over $600 - (The remington 710 is under)

I just got a model 11 Savage with the synthetic stock, accutrigger & in .308. I put a Bushnell 3-9X40 trophy with the mildots on it for sights... Tonight I tried it out & such... for well under the $1000 budget I had set up, I have a rifle that'll DEFINITELY do what I need it to! I'm quite a happy camper!
