6.5 Grendel, although 300y would be about my limit for deer sized with the Gren.
Modern rifle frame, AR mag: what would be the caliber that's capable of taking game cleanly at decent range? Let's say 300 yds or better.
*Talk me out of the 458 SOCOM!
6.8 is pretty spent and pushing poor ballistic projectiles by 200. 6.5 has better ballistic projectiles but much less case capacity/speed.
Really, for hunting the ar10 is the better platform.

6.5 Grendel (assuming we're talking AR-15 magazines)
.308 Winchester (assuming we're talking AR-10 magazines)
Why?
Because although other people will suggest various niche calibres, they are in my opinion a poor choice unless you are quite wealthy.
If you want to shoot past 300 you need to know what you're doing
If you want to hunt past 300m then I would suggest one of two calibres:
So in my view the calibres you're most likely to get good with will be those that are in a wide enough variety to be commonly available and a good round for your rifle found whilst also being affordable enough to practice with. Hence .223 and 308 being excellent choices
