What would you do rpr or 700

The thing is that the RPR needs to get dressed too to really be something. Lots of guys are real happy with them but I think mainly because it looks tacticool.

In reality the RPR has a number of weak points that are inherint to the system and nothing you can do will correct it. It lacks the popularity of the Rem 700 so there are few aftermarket options to really refine it.

In the end while a Remmy needs plenty of accessorizing to really pull things off, it really has more versatility in the end. Having said that... I'm no great fan of the Rem 700 but I do admit there's value in the fact that every gunsmith and backyard handyman knows what to do with it.

There's no wrong answer here, but I'd suggest you throw a Rem 700 into that new ESS chassis from MDT.

Mtm?

I've had/have various Savages & Remingtons that I use for distance shooting. If I were you, I'd just grab a heavy barrel Tikka on sale and be done with it.. chances are that it'll be a very good shooter with the factory barrel and the actions are very nice for a factory rig.

Then decide on a stock.. if you want a chassis you can grab an MDT or Cadex.. something more traditional, you can order a McMillan/Manners and play the waiting game, or go for something like a GRS Beserk.

One of the things I look at also is price of mags for my given choice. Is Cabela's serious with the mags for the t3x Ctr? 220 bucks for a 10rd mag? I have a line on one of these with 40 rds thru it for 1200 before haggling but mags lord god

I was in a similar boat when I went to get a rifle with AR style chassis. I ended up with a RPR because I feel it's a solid choice out the gate. You can put all AR style accessories and I don't know if weight matters to you but it's a solid gun. If you build it it just seems to never ends, too many options and add ons. I took the easy route and I love how solid it feels. Now to just handload so I can get better groupings....

Saw something on LRH message board about the polymer MDT mags working in the CTR.

I spent a good time today handling the RPR and for the most part its pretty solid. Handguard was perfectly lined up, trigger was already set at the lowest point and broke nice. The mag system is pretty cool,,,,using pretty much any mag is a big bonus. My only gripe and its pretty big if I were to buy one was the action is extremely rough.....My Tikka rifles are soooo much more smooth. Thats my big hang up on the RPR and perhaps with time the bolt smooths out??? So I agree with Mystic..the action on the ruger initially is pretty bad.

Cheers!!

That would be a blessing considering the price of oem. I see some posts on other boards saying they work. Anyone else know of this? I like multiple mags but this gun is becoming a front runner for me bc I know of one available.

I have both... and also an AI Ax .308 (well, okay, Wolverine hooked me up... ) But honestly, I love how both platforms have AICS love. The advantage the RPR has over the Remmy (also my beloved) is that I can use my M14 magazines (read: 10 round AIA) in my RPR.

Yeah, the M14 magazines are a bunch of 5/20's but I still CAN... And yes, both platforms can be accessorized; what's not to like? Get in the game and start shooting matches with your local or Provincial rifle clubs!

Cheers, :dancingbanana:

If $2500 was my total budget,I'd buy a 10 tr ,bipod, and spend the rest on glass.
Use that setup while saving for a Cadex.
Maybe lol

Pick up a rpr in 6.5. All reports seem to be they shoot the lights out. If you want something different throw a new barrel on at home with minimal tools.

I'm sorry sir, I was wrong.
After researching some more, EE parts,Guntech,s labor quotes, etc. $2300 is doable.
I would think you could pick up a used RPR for under $1500???
Not sure what the new RPR are going for.

I purchased a used gen 2 RPR in 6.5 Creed off here that had fired 3 rounds for $1600 delivered (and the guy only wanted $1550 delivered - long story)

Have you considered the new Savage BA Stealth? Seems like a LOT of rifle for the cash. I looked at one against an RPR and truth is I liked both but they are totally different

The RPR is a solid bench gun, the Savage is a lightweight gun which obviously makes it more versatile

Both are available in a variety of calibers but the price point of the Savage makes it seem like a bargain

I was really torn but in the end an RPR that ticked all the boxes came along at the right price but I wouldn't rule out owning a Savage stealth one day too.....

........but but all of the modern trendy Remington/Savage/etc chassis are now modular tacticool looking......no?

Pretty much, is there a difference between a chassis and a stock? Would you say chassis you can change out the butt of the rifle where a stock is a permanent thing.
