So, it's opening morning of rifle season and one of my hunting buddies is going to hunt a certain ridge on crown land. He's walking in the dark when a truck of hunters blasts by him, parks and starts getting geared up(he's parked on the highway and walked to keep things quiet). Anyway just as daylight starts breaking he hears some noise turns around and sees one of the hunters park his ass 40 yds. above him on the ridge looking down over the same draw. When my buddy informs him that the only shot he has is over his head and that he'll have him charged, the guy goes ballistic! What would would you have done? Jeff walked away, but I think I would have confronted this Yob face to face. Not only does he have no ethics but he's dangerous as well. I've gotten to my "spot" many times just to see orange in the area. I always wave and move off feeling a little sheepish for disturbing someone else's hunt. I don't know if I could have held back on this idiot.

I disdain crowds and if I'm encroached upon I pick up and move. On crown land you have no right over the other guy, and they've already screwed up your chances of success, so you might as well move along.

+1. I don't like it, but I have to agree.

Same thing happened last week to me. On opening day me and my party were heading to one peice of land, saw there were other people there already, moved to another peice of land. Two hours later the other group showed up and parked themselves right beside us. They REFUSED to tell us what general area they were going to be in, even though all we wanted was to stay far out of their way. So I made the call to leave. We're three young first time deer hunters ready to go, and for safeties sake im not risking anything. The next day we went to the area we wanted the first day, dropped one guy off and he started walking along the forest edge. Not 1 minute later, the same group shows up and parks 30yards infront of him and drops another guy off. They have the same discussion, and they also REFUSE to tell us what corner of the block or anything as to where they are going to be. F***ing ignorant F***s.

This happened to my father quite a few years ago.
Guys parked right in front of him before first light and just ignored him.

He let them walk ahead of him and was standing up on a ridge and saw a buck sneaking back between the two fellows stomping through the bush.

A nice 5x6.
He left them a note on their truck thanking them for helping him get his deer.:D

Me, I would have flattened their tires and taken a dump on the hood of their truck

Say's who? From what I gather it is illegal "in Ontario anyways" to interfere with another's hunt.

The few times I've run into hunters if they are set up, I exit as quietly as possible and if they are moving I'll approach them and try and figure out we can both hunt and how many other hunters are with them. I've encountered a few slobs but most guys do the sport proud.

While it may be illegal to interfere with another fellow's hunt, who is to say that it isn't you that is interfering with their hunt? The point I believe Boomer is making is that its rarely worth the trouble (or the potential trouble) to get into a confrontation with armed douche bags over a hunting spot on Crown land (or fishing spot, etc). Move on, find a better spot, and enjoy your day off from work while you still can.

Generally, I have to agree with CV32 and others, you meet an idiot, as galling as it is, move on since an armed idiot is just too dangerous to fool around with. That being said, a friend had an unusual way to solve this kind of problem, although it could have got nasty. A few years ago, when somebody came in in daylight and set up about 20 yds from his stand and wouldn't move on, my friend decided to enjoy the lovely day and sing Christmas carols in his big booming but off-tune voice. The dork quickly got the hint (maybe he couldn't stand the singing? :D) and found some other place to go.

Yup, there is deffinately a lot of this kind of thing going on. I had two guys walk into the middle of this meadow I was watching and sit down right in front of me ,right under the muzzle of my rifle about 50 yards off , this after the one guy glassed me with his binos. They knew I was there, I had my orange hat on, could not have missed me. Last year I had some goof with a bow park his noisey diesel truck not 10 feet off the old road near the little bowl I was watching walk almost right up to me, despite me yelling at him to go and find another spot 3 times. I was in full camo and I guess he could not see me, but still, you would think he would have got the point. Anyway, he continued walking right at me, so I pull my camo mask on and wait until he is like 30 feet from me and I let out a really loud " HEY! ! ! ".
He jumped like a scared rabbit and stated that he was going hunting right over the other ridge. I told him that is the ridge that I am covering and to leave or I would call the CO. He just kept on walking , not even caring that my rifle was positioned in that area. Pretty stupid.
What the hell is wrong with people these days??
Its like most people just don't give a sh!t about anyone else and the training that we have to go through just to be able to hold a hunting licence gets thrown right out the window once they get that licence. Crown land is crown land and everybody has the right to be on there , but whatever happened to ethics and safety? If I crawl into some spot and I find out that there is someone there already, I leave and find another spot. Common sense , right? Apparently there are some people that should not have that hunting licence, and the Hunter Training program should be changed as to be able to weed those people out.
I will be carrying a camera from now on, and I will use it to my advantage. Like say, if someone tries to move in on my spot and does not have the respect to move on and find a nother area to hunt, I will take pics and take them to the CO and tell him that this individual threatened me with physical harm and pointed his weapon at me or I caught him trespassing on private property, anything to get him/her in trouble with Johnny Law. I am fed up with the lack of respect and the thinking that some people have in that this is their" private " area and that just because they show up after you , you should move on.
If you want to be a pr*CK, YOU WILL GET TREATED LIKE ONE.
I'm done talking.

So how is that to your advantage? You can claim you were there first, they claim they were there first, and there's more voices on their side. I doubt if your complaint that these interlopers were interfering with your hunt would wash as they were also hunting and not attempting to prevent you from hunting. If you put more importance on hunting than spending any part of a precious short season arguing with idiots, then go hunting somewhere else. Besides, the critters already moved somewhere else.

I'd move along. If I had any notion of the most likely direction from which a deer would approach, that's probably the way I'd have to go. I'd probably have to take a piss on my way out, too.

I to had a similar situation happen. I decided to leave because I enjoy hunting, not fighting. Hunting is looking for game and that same day I found a honey hole I know I would not of found if it wasnt for the idiots without ethics. It has been 9 yrs since and 9 bucks have dropped.

This is the reason i gave up hunting a few years ago.To many pumpkins walking around the bush.Next year will be different as i have permission to hunt over 2600 private acres:D but only before and after the rifle season.Oh and i can hunt all winter for yotes:rockOn:

Well... I would call the MNR, on my cell. And tell him what was up. Once he got there I would tell him what was up, if he said to me, how can you prove that I was there before them, I would say, go feel their motor temp and then mine and see who is cooler :p aha, it may work but I see your point.

Personally I have had one jackass interfere with my hunt on 3 seperate occasions, but him on a sled and his mutt running behind him and then the last time, stopped and said I could not hunt where I was hunting and that it was private property "proved to be not true because I got written proof that it was not to show this idiot next time and then warn him of the laws of being charged for interfering with ones hunt, but have not run into him hunting since at my one Grouse spot"

Point being, I am not arguing with you and I totally see your point but just going on the thread topic of the matter and giving advice. If it we're me personally I would probably give up a few choice words and go to another spot as there is plenty of crown land where I live.

Alway's an idiot in every shadow :ninja:
