What would you rather, beam scale or electronic

im an ole fart.....so new gadgets make me nervous.(the wifey bought a bath room scale thats digital......and i,ll tell ya it lies:confused: ).....so its a beam for me

I've got an RCBS 505 'old' school scale... but I've also got the new fangled Lyman 1200dpsii dispenser/scale. One rarely comes out without the other. I find drafts do affect the lyman, and it needs regular rezeroing. If you're gonna go digital, spend a little extra and go with the "two in one". If you dispense soley with a powder drop, stick with your beamer just for 'checks'. If you're a trickler and hate doin it, you'll love the auto dispensors. You'll note I didn't say they were FASTER, they're just easier.

some didgitals needs some time to warm up before they start to give consistent readings. I use both, beam to check something quickly, electronic to do repetitive production work.

I use a RCBS 505, but just yesterday a friend dropped off a pocket sized electonic scale made by Frankford Arsenal.I played with it a bit, using the Lyman scale check weights and it seems to be rite on with them.It looks like it will be an Ok unit , esp for weighing bullets and brass.I will stick with the beam scale for checkin the powder, for now anyhow.

Forgot to mention that... the Lyman takes a half hour. Has it's own timer. You CAN use it before that, and I havent' noticed any problems, but I usually let it time out.
It usually takes me a 1/2 hour to get my brass ready anyways.

I recently went with the RCBS Chargemaster scale and dispenser and am very impressed with it. With out the dispenser I don't think it would be any faster than a beam scale though.

I have RCBS chargemaster plus my old powder charger and 505 scale. The chargemaster is pretty cool but there is nothing wrong with the old beam. Whats nice is when your developing a load. Just punch in a weight and it dispenses it for you. Pretty cool. No warm up time. My scale isnt affected by the florescent lights either. If you gonna go all out and get an electronic, buy the rcbs setup with dispenser.

digital scales are more sensitive to draft and vibrations. My work area is a bit drafty, and this affects the reading. The only advantage i have with my digital is the readout which is nemerical and very bright.

But I use the beam once i a while to double check my electronic, or vice versa..

I have both. Now and then I compare weighing results. I have a reference weight that I use on the digital every few loads to keep it honest.
