What year did Rem 700 quality begin to decline?

The toughest old guys I work with smoke at least a pack a day and move quicker than the kids they're training.

People say that the older Rem 700 rifles were better quality and I was wondering what year that drop in quality started?

Around 1962, somewhere between the 2nd and 5th rifle to come out of the plant.

Il admit I could be wrong on my serial numbers, it could easily be between the 3rd and 8th, but I have it on good authority its somewhere in that range.

Could be so, the last truly smart thing i did was off load my remington 700 years ago.

Still have the rolling block, so I'm not entirely prejeduced against Remington, its safety always works and it hits where its pointed.
