Hey guys i was just wondering how to tell what year my m14 was made. I cant see a year stamped on it at all. Do i look up the serial number and if so could someone provide a reference link?

The 2009 poly techs have the serial number starting with a 2009###xx so if the older versions are the same it might be that easy.

okay well the serial number is 003443 and the number on the receiver is 422323 if that helps at all.
EDIT: It also has a dummy flash suppresor

I've got a wierd receiver that is reggied as a norinco
No norinco or chinese markings
Serial is stamped on heel and under stock line, left hand side
Has the machining quality and parkerizing of a usgi m14 receiver
And the crazy part, the heel is very neatly stamped, in the same detail and manner as a genuine usgi or springfield.... Except, it is stamped as follows

RIFLE M1A
COMPETITION
NM
7.62
19742

I got this from Foxtrot a while ago and meant to ask him if he had any history on it.
I'm not entirely convinced it is a norinco/poly

A few years back, a gentleman in California corresponded with me. He had a semi-auto commercial made receiver that was marked Springfield Armory but Genseo, Illinois had no record of it. I forget the details but it wasn't marked exactly like an SAI receiver. Anyway, he had Fulton Armory examine it. Clint McKee's strong opinion was that it was a Federal Ordnance receiver that someone had stamped the way they wanted it. IOW, a "lunch box special."

The moral of the story is that the machining cuts may identify its true origin. HTH and FWIW

I'll be doing my best to have some ggod pics put up of this one.
It does NOT have the hole in right side receiver leg , does not have the recess groove at underneath front right side (for connector)
Does not have the mid way takedown notch for the oprod... BUT it does show evidence of the selector lug being removed. This location also shows extremely nice machining.
There zero rough machining cuts anywhere, this receiver is baby smooth to the touch and has a dark greeny black finish.
For the time being this one I'll keep unbuilt as a collector piece.
