What year is my S&W model 60?

Hi guys,

I have a S&W mod 60 with no dash after the 60. As well the serial no. is R37823. Can anyone tell me when this pistols was made?

From 1970-73 serial number range R30001 - R99999 was used so yours was probably 1970.

What length barrel is yours? Some troops used the model 60 due to it's resistance to rust but from what I've heard they preferred them in snubby size for close in work and keeping handy under poncho in the rain etc. Lots of info if you google "s&w model 60 vietnam"

More likely yours led a quieter life up here. You could find out where it originally was shipped if you want to fork out $50 US to Roy Jenks the S&W historian.
