What you leave behind when you die - Picture Heavy

^you shouldn't have any issues finding a young man or woman or several locally who wants to get into hunting/shooting but cannot afford it.

This is something I have to think hard about, and could use suggestions. I have a nice collection or Firearms, but I am getting old, and the only other Firearms interested friend I have is older and sicker than me, so I have no one really to leave my firearms and accessories to. Any suggestions other than selling them off?
You bring up a great point. There are many across this great country in the same position.

Who do you will them too?
I would want them to go to someone who would cherish them as much as I have.
That said, I would rather milsurps go to someone who is into them than someone who is indifferent. Same could be said about all the other classes of firearms.
If you have family it's relatively easy, you will them out and hope for the best.

But for those who don't have anyone suitable to take over their care it's a $hitty situation.

If you are fortunate enough to be involved in a relatively close knit club, there could be someone who could help direct to a new shooter with a keen interest.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Keep em comin!!

On the chance that 'something' unexpected might happen to me, I was thinking of starting to downsize. I didn't want my wife to have to contend with what I may leave behind and didn't want the authorities to come and confiscate them either. A friend chastised me saying "you spent your life accumulating toys you enjoy, use them and leave those that will inherit them worry about their final disposition". My Daughter and Son have restricted PAL status and my Son In Law is 12(6) so all the bases are covered. In a chat with them, I suggested they pick what they want and then sell what may remain and give those funds to my wife. Or, take what may be left to a retail outlet they are well acquainted with and sell them on consignment. In the meantime, I'll continue to use and enjoy:d.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I rather like the idea of 'gifting' them to my range; for newbies and other people to get a chance to shoot them, not to just sit in someone else's gun safe. I want to have them used.

Sorry for your loss.

I hope this thread will inspire others to make out a detailed will.
In a perfect world we would do a forensic audit of all things in our possession firearms related with approximate current value. Dated to time of writing.

Too many treasures end up in the landfill or transferred to the crown because of lack of knowledge/lack of will.

Do it! and do it now! You never know when your number is going to come up.

Well said. At the end of the day were all going to die, unfortunately some sooner then later.
Have your affairs in order with a up to date Last Will and Testament and Power of Attorney.
I started getting rid of what I don't really use/need.
I started giving some of the stuff I was just keeping to pass on.
The rest of my toys is properly itemized and beneficiary listed.
Don't forget all your ammo, knives and hunting and fishing gear.

Sorry for your loss KRASHED. Nice collection and good for you for helping out.

The thought of the Mrs not having a clue about firearms and likely only getting ten cents on the dollar for a six figure collection of firearms , resulted in me instructing the Mrs to contact my go to gun dealer and forum sponsor to dispose of my collection, should something happen to me.

Find someone on here that you respect , get to know them on a more personal level (Phone , in person whatever works for the 2 of you)

Will them to that person , That way you will know that they are kept in circulation.
You wouldn't even have to tell them you did it

It's a sad thing to have to deal with and I wish you the best of luck in finding the best people to carry on with those guns . I don't as.of yet have a will but my wife knows roughly the value of all my items to date and also knows who I would want what to go to . But it does make me curious what tye plans are for all of the guns floating around my family are as I would guess that there's literally hundreds .
