What your furthest pistol shot?

Way long ago, 30 and change years, and there was several boxes of shells involved, but we eventually started smacking a rock on the other side of the field with a Ruger Single action in .357 Mag, at 325 yards.

It had a very nice dry sand and clay hillside, to spot the impacts on, and it still counts as one of the really fun shoots that I was involved in. :) Hey, who knew? Recreational handgun shooting, off a range, and no kittens were harmed, nor did the angels find a reason to cry!

Oh well...

I actually hit the frame of the gong 2x during that string but it doesn't count as gong hit! S&W beats Tok I guess! ;)
Oh yeah, I was aiming at the berm about 5 ft above the gong but dead in line windage wise with the .40.
It's difficult but not impossible to do. Easier with a spotter with binocs who can call your dust cloud and " walk" you onto the target.

Yeah, my son was spotting with binos and telling me where the puffs of dirt were. I hit the frame once as well according to him. Colin was walking by and heard the gong with one of my Tok shots and was wondering how high I was holding.

Shot a lot of IHMSA and so lots of steel out to 200 yards - Shot a few 40 out of 40 round matches and once a 60 out out 60 too ! Shot them with a XP100 Remmy chambered in 7mm-08- Bowmar -Anshultz sights - HS fibre glass stock with a aluminum bedding block and a 24 OZ trigger - Load was a Horn 154 gr bullet at about 2350 fps .:d RJ

This can be a great fun shoot with any style firearm. When I'm traveling on remote reads, or trails, I am always on the watch for a clay hill side, 200 yards plus for the 22 and 500 plus for the centre fire rifle.
Yes, we have also had great fun with revolvers on such targets!

Picture a full size buffalo steel target set in the field 535 yards away at my own range.
45 ACP
Screened in porch that said target could be seen from.
Unlimited ammo.
I have a picture somewhere of the hits.
Same target with hits from a 22. Think mortar rounds. Actually found some bullets. Those were the days.

I've hit our 300m ram with every handgun I own. Our range is sand and it's not that hard to walk the bullets onto the target. I use the clouds as a sighting reference although it sure help if they're not moving......
