just went out to the bush in my backyard in southern ontario (wainfleet)
and i found a fresh scrap
i was out yesterday and it wasn't there....is the rut on early
someone explain this to me

The rut is still 1.5 months away, well here in Alberta anyway. Maybe a buck decided to find a tree to rub his velvet off.....that is the only logical explanation that I can give.

i found a scrap(when they scrap the dirt with there antlers to show other bucks thats there area)they only do scraps in the rut (a rub is when they rub there antlers on a tree to remove the velvet)

A rub is when the buck rubs the bark off of trees to leave the scent from his forehead glands. These usually show the size. Often these marks can be seen well before the rut so called starts. The deer do not have a time clock, but rather depend on the remaining daylight hours. Velvet is normally rubbed off in bushes not trees.

Have you noticed all the acorns have dropped already? 1 month early. Im not far from Wainfleet and we have been having weather that is more common for Halloween. It could be an early rut. Just my 2 cents.
