I've got a heavy barrelled .204 I wanna throw a scope on for coyotes (mostly) as well as gophers up to 600 yards. Just curious what you guys would recommend. I was thinking a Sightron 6-24x50???
A VX-3 4-16x40 on my 6mm and a Burris Veracity 4-20x50 on my .204. I'd consider the Burris the perfect coyote scope if it were a bit smaller in size. Has what I consider a very useable varmint reticle and FFP, which I love.
The ones that see the most use are a VX1 in 4-12 on my 22-250, and a Prostaff5 in 3.5-14 on a 257 Weatherby. Both work well but the Nikon seems to get fuzzy at anything over 12x. I don't feel the need for more than that anyway so it's fine for me.
I have a barska 6-24x42 mil dot. Put it on when I first got the rifle and settled with it. It works. Not the brightest or clearest but my last coyote was 552 yards
I have a Leica 2.5-10x42 on my tikka 22-250. I was using a zeiss conquest 6.5-20, but often calling brings them in close enough I wish I could go lower than 6x. Just something to think about if calling. Also I've found that high quality glass in a lower power is much better for me than high power medium quality.
Thanks for the responses. My concern was it may be a little too much scope for what I need. I am just getting back into coyote hunting. Had a VX-II 3-9x40 on my last 204 and wanted something to engage them a little further. Never really let them get close enough to have to come off 9x, so I'm hoping 6x minimum would be fine if they did get in close. I'll be doing a lot of calling and using my quivering critter out on the farm to guide them to where I want them. It worked for me in the past.
