First post on CGN and was hopeing for some insight and input.

Im new ish to shooting and am going to get my first O/U. I will be shooting sporting clays, skeet, and the odd hunting trip (maybe once a year). Im not looking to trow too too much into a gun but don't want to get something i will just have to replace in a few years.
That being said.... I have narrowed it down to two guns, the Browning Citori Lightning and the Winchester 101 Field. Like them both and they both feel really good and comfy but just need something to "push" me to one or the other... Or any other recommendations?

just looking for some input or whatever

Thanks

Both are good quality but proper fit is most important. Niether of these two should need to be replaced because of quality. One will be more right for you, but no one will be able to tell you which without watching you handle or shoot. Even then you will need to rely on someone who really knows his stuff. My best advice is go to a local club and maybe you will get to try several guns and get an idea what will work for you. No matter what you choose now, there is a very good chance that you will make changes to different equipment when you get more experience with the shooting sports you choose. Since you are a new shooter I would not trust feeling really good and comfy. Proper fit is only proper if it goes along with proper handling, especially the gun mount. I am a little on the older side, but if I had to anything over again is that I would hope to learn by really good instruction right off the bat. If you don't buy into all the stuff I just said, just pick one a go out and have fun:)

If you like how they both feel, start getting picky
what has a nicer trigger, what action is smoother, what has a more comfortable weight, ad so on
The good thing about both those guns is that they should hold up in value fairly well, so worst case senario, you can always sell if you find something better

Aren't they basically the same gun, with minor styling differences? Both are made by Miroku in Japan.

If you like them both equally, flip a coin or pick the one you can get for the best price.

The current Winchester 101 is made in Belgium by FN. The older Winchester 101 was made in Japan by Olin Kodensha. While the Japanese-made 101s appear quite similar to the Miroku guns they are several differences.

Between the two currently available models IMO they are quite similar and I would also suggest that fit and examining both guns in person are the best way to make the decision.

Thanks for all the input everyone

Both are a vary nice fit, but will have to get to a range and see what one "fits" better under live fire. Will have to find some one with one to try them tho

As for the price there within $100 at the local gun shop so price wont be much of a decision maker. (trying to not let price get too too much in the way) Trying to keep in around or under the $2000 range...

Make sure that you try the same Citori that you consider buying. They make several models that fit different types of shooters and tastes. BWOE, the 625 Field has a sloping rob, whilst the Lightning has a flat rib. If you like seeing the target above the bead, you will like the 625. If you like covering the target or having the gun level with it, the Lightning will likely be a better fit.
