what's a compact, light, accurate 22?

Hi, I am in the market for a 22 grouse gun..
I'd like a compact 18.5" - 20" barrel
NOT tubular magazine, prefer clip mag
no specific action. Open for bolt, lever, semi, pump, or even single shot break action
it will be scoped
no bull barrel as it adds considerable weight.
not sure about carbon fibre though, heard mixed reviews about accuracy.
no specific budget
I looked at the Browning buckmark, but I could not operate the mag & slide release with my strong hand :(
maybe a custom 10/22 with folding stock!

What would you recommend?

10/22 would work good.

My "go-to" grouse gun is a CZ452 style with the synthetic stock and nickel plated barrel. I like it because I can walk through the woods through it, and not worry about marking it like you would with a wood stock. I believe the barrel is about 22.5, so it may be a bit longer than what you are hoping for, but it is really light.

Took three partridge with my 10/22 a couple weeks ago. Works for me.

I bought a Rossi single-shot-break-open-tiny-little-4lb-rifle to pack on my quad for grouse. I LOVE it! I shoot CB's out of it (if you miss, the birds don't spook) and I can consistantly hit grapes @ 20 yards. And it was cheap!

Also came with a .410 barrel for hunting where the chickens are a little more "flighty"

10/22, butler creek carbon fiber 18", red dot, sling, 5lbs loaded with factoy mag! :D

Kinda expensive to get all at once, but well worth it. A standard Stainless/synthetic 10/22 is pretty light. Butler creek also has a tappered 16.5" carbon fiber barrel which is ridiculously light.

Here's my set up, with 18" "bull barrel."

 
Don't overlook the older rifles. :)
My current fav' small bore woods rifle is a Model 06 Winchester, take-down, slide action.
Hits golf balls at 50 yards no problem.

Yup, very light alright (4.5lbs), just got one over a couple weeks ago ...
for around $ 140 you can't go wrong.
