Hey guys, I am going to list my old marlin 336U (manufactured 1961). She's an old girl, 30-30 wood furniture and blued in good-very good condition.

I don't wanna rip anyone off, nor do I wanna donate this rifle but it's just become a safe queen next to my Sav 99. I am wondering what is a fair estimate for these rifles? I've looked on the EE and it's hard to find one that not listed as "SPF".

I also have the matching .22 "saddle-mate"

I would guess without photos on the 336 turdy turdy $350-$450.
Not sure what a saddle-mate is, maybe a Marlin 39A.
If so, more than the big brother.

As an EE rule, older 336's go between 300-500$ with 350$ seemingly the standard.

So...lets say you have a run of the mill 336 in decent 75% condition, normally fetches 350$
A real early model with Ballard rifling not D&T'ed add 50-75$
A different chambering like .35rem add 50$
nice walnut instead of hardwood add 50$
Unfinished but in pristine 90% original condition adds 50-100$
This is only what I observe on the EE, I am by no means an authority, obviously!

Another thing I notice is some guys throw a s**tty old 40$ scope they are trying to get rid of on their 336's and try and sell them for a 100$ more as scoped.
Seriously? You know that Weaver top-mount base is worth about 12 bucks right?
Usaully you'll find they've lost the little filler screws as well! :p

Well when i talk tapped receiver, I'm selfishly thinking of putting on a Skinner Peep sight, and not a scope, a good Marlin deserves a SKINNER PEEP.

+1. Is there a Cdn Skinner dealer or can you order direct from the US and have it shipped with no problems at the border?

Mosinmaster; Order direct w w w.skinnersights.com......This is the very best for serious Levergun work, I won't look at Williams or Lyman now.

And, it shows in your posts, GT, but keep trying. ;) '43 for me......truly an old crock!

Appreciate your keeping us on our toes.

Best,
Ted

What are you young whipper snappers talking about---old coot.
1961 seems like this morning! And 1943 sure was a cold winter, in Saskatchewan.

Tough to ketch you on a fib there H4831........:p
I could take my age, divide it in half and add this amount to
my age and still need a ladder to reach up there aye?
You s'perianced folk have seen the best changes of this
planet. I think the early years were probably the best for
doing stuff.
No boundries and few restrictions.
Cheers.
