So I just got a Marlin Papoose from the EE, I am really loving it, even bought some extra mags for it. The previous owner sent along some scope rings that fit it, so I thought I may get a small scope for it. I want something pretty compact so that it will fit back in the bag hopefully. I also want something that is variable magnification and somewhat decent quality. Any ideas?

For my Papoose I went with a 3.5x Vomz scope. Enough magnification for "minute of squirrel head" at 25 yards off hand, but nice and small and lightweight as well.

Looks odd. Works great.

I'd look at the Bushnell ultra hd line. I picked up a 3-9x50 and it dials right in to 3 yards to read a magazine article with the adjustable parallax feature. Very clear glass for decent money

Nikon rimfire 4x12......don't even bother with anything in the 3x9

Please explain!

Why not a fixed 10, or fixed 7, or a 2x7 or a 4x16?

My best advice would be to take a look at what you want to do with the rifle, research the best option for that use. Then find your price range, buy the best you feel needed.

In thick bush with 10-25 yard shots on tree rats I know I don't want to be on 12x magnification lol. At the range printing on paper, I prefer the most maginification I can get. Is the gun only for paper or am I hunting as well ? Ect ect. Ask yourself the use for the rifle, or even tell us then we can help point you in the right direction in our own opinions.

Would be for mostly range use only.
