What's a good 9mm powder

I like 231 and unique . I'll never buy 800 x ever again . it made a crunching noise through my powder measure. as for 9mm I prefer to buy it . it's not my favourite to reload . 45. 357 are fabulous but those little 9mm cases and a single stage press leave me less than impressed . I can never get the length of the 9mm correct when I have tried to reload them .

That's an interesting bit of information. I bought a couple of boxes of surplus IVI 9mm ammo a few years ago and ran them through my Glock. They were quite stout; with far more gumption than any Unique loads I crafted myself from any manual, as well as any other ammo I purchased.

Depending on the year of the IVI, before the CAF got the SIG's the ammo was made to cycle the Sterling SMG and the Inglis HP - read really hot.

When they received the SIG's, they were running that ammo and stripping the rails from the frame and other damage. Once that was identified, Federal ammo was used in these pistols, and IVI changed the spec on the ammo. I don't remember the year that this happened.

I had a load of True blue that my shadow throws like a laser for target shooting. The new price of powder is cost prohibitive , looks like its back to working up a load.
I'm using Alliant Sport pistol for my light steel target loads (sub 1000 fps club rules). I'm pretty happy with it. I've tried everything from Blue dot to titegroup in 9mm. I like hp38 , Power pistol and True blue.

I tried Unique, N320, CFE pistol, W231. My favourite is CFE pistol. Second favourite is Unique. These two shoot very accurate from my Shadow, but CFE meters better. I feel the Unique is softer for the same velocity however. N320 I did not spend lots of time with as it did not group nearly as well, and its expensive and harder to find. 231 was kinda slow.

Switch bullets. I had no problems with Zero's and Cam Pro, but with BDX it was all over the map.

I've been using HS-6 for well over a decade. Probably closer to two. It doesn't work well down loaded, but works well for me closer to the top. I load a 147gr cast PC bullet. I've also used 231 (dirty), WSL back in the day and 700X (meters poorly). I have a couple pounds of N340, but I haven't really played with it. It was given to me and I am just hanging on to it in case of emergency.

TG. Can't beat the price per round of TG.

That being said, you don't save much reloading 9mm or 223. If you shoot less than 10k per year it's not really worth it.

Regardless there are still some saving to be had, and reloading is a great way to continue in our chosen sport when we are not at the range. If you are already reloading for other calibers; why not do them all!

^^

Quoted as fact.

Was also used for decades to load US military 45 acp. If memory serves me well, Unique was replaced by Power Pistol in the '60s. Honestly have no clue what is used today.
