whats a good budget hunting scope

hey guys,
looking to put a budget scope on a rem 700 7mm rem mag... i'm hoping to be hunting out to 300 yards (with lots of practice) and i'm wondering what some scopes i should look into are... i'd like either turrets or a bdc type of reticle. i'm looking to spend about $200

Bushnell XLT 3-9x40 Trophy DOA (Dead On Accurate) 600 $139.98. Free store pickup. If your store does not have it, you can order it and they will send it to your store. Two young guys had them at the range sight in last fall and the scopes worked just fine. 300 yards should be no problem for these scopes in your price range.

You spent how much on the rifle? You should spend at least that much on a scope becuase if you can't see it you can't hit it. Leupold 4-12x40 VX 1 is the best entry level in my opinion for a mag rifle.

It doesn't matter how much or how little you spent on the rifle. You should spend as much as it takes to get a scope that will do what you need it to do. If a $200 scope does it for your $150 sportered enfield or if it does it for your >$1000 magnum calibre Remington 700TLA*, it does it.

Spend more if you want to.


* TLA: whatever Three Letter Abbreviation Remington sticks on this year's cosmetic treatment of the 700 to sucker fans into buying another 700 to replace the perfectly serviceable 700 they bought last year.
 
I have to second, (or third) the Redfield Revolution and you CAN get it with the Accurange reticle which is their bullet drop compensator. Leupold bought up the Redfield name and as I understand it they make this scope on the same equipment that formerly made the vxii. I have a 2-7 and it is excellent. As stated above it also comes with a full lifetime warranty from Leupold. BEWARE, Redfield recently released a new line called Rampage. This is not the same scope and is made in the Phillipines I believe. I have no experience with it, but it is not the American, (Leupold) made Revolution.

That said, I have owned Bushnell Trophy that I used on no less than 3 rifles and it did EXACTLY what it was supposed to with regard to turret/reticle movement etc. I had no complaint with it, but I believe the Redfield to be a better scope as is reflected by the low light performance as well as the price!

you could get a Vortex Crossfire II for less than $200 with a BDC reticule. Huge improvement over their first generation Crossfire scopes, either of which in my opinion at least but comparable Bushnell scopes to shame. For a few bucks more you could also look at a Vortex Diamondback scope.
 
I can see the animals quite well through all of my scopes. Most of them were used when I bought them, but even the new ones weren't more than $200. If you have more money and you want to spend it on a better scope, you should, and enjoy it. And that should be enough reason for you. Telling other people they have to spend their money to vindicate your choices indicates you have something wrong with you.

If the bullet doesn't go to the right place, it's my fault, not the scope's.
 
How about an older fixed power Leupold, like x6.For two hundy you'll get a pretty nice hunk of glass that'll stand up to recoil, not sure if a Walmart scope will.
 
ive got the Redfield and its great (not the new ones, the ones they made in the US)
was about mid-low range for price and i can see everything with it.
ill compare it to my dads Leupold (the low/mid range ones) for glass.

my dad recently picked up a couple of the Cabela's house brand (im guessing here.... Grizzly Ridge or Pine Ridge.... Ridge something???) and they seem very nice, and the price is very low on them.
