I really like the 243 as a long range coyote round. Less drop and wind drift waay out there than the 22-250. Steps up to larger animals than yotes better also.
Well I've got a 220 Swift in a VS SF take just dances all over dirt pigs out past 250 yards easy and a 243 WSSM in a A-Bolt Varmint Stalker that will touch 70 grain BT's out at 220 yards. Either rifle will kill but for the dramatics and that empty thud...you can't beat the 243 in my opinion in any sort of case. A 6.5/284 sure is a nice rig as well!
I've seen way more fur damage from the various 22's I witnessed kill dogs than my standard load of 80 gr Btip in the 243. Finger tip hole out most times.
The majority I've seen killed with the 22's made a mess.
For no fur damage you want a 204 or one of the 17's. I bought a 204. I have it all covered in pred hunting with my 243 and 204.
.243 .25 .260 .270 these are all good long range coyote killers. I like hunting wieght bullets that do not expand as dramatically as Varmint bullets for coyotes.
For Example I use 110gr Accubonds in my 25wssm and 140gr A/B's in the 270WSM. These bullets both deliver energy well at medium and long range and almost always exit with predictable two stitch holes. Why waste the hides or get poor money for them?
I shot all my dogs this year with the .25 but I recently put a .204 on the Encore... I'll let you know how it works with 32gr V-Max at 4250fps on coyotes... as soon as a coyote hits the bait again.
my vote is 220 swift...40gr nosler balistic tip.....you can turn a ground hog inside out or use on head shot for deer and not far side of the head left ...works great...

204ruger, but I'm slightly biased . I've yet to take any critters with it, but it shoots like a laser beam.
204ruger on the right, brass comes out of the gun cold compared to the .223 Sustained firing sessions are not an issue, barrel cleans up fast and with proper bullet selection your killing crows to wolves?
