Whats a good non restricted AR platform

Good and similar to the AR is basically:

ATRS Modern Sporter
SAI TR
Maccabee Defence SLR
BCL Coyote

But all are a little grey with the totally unjustified FRT bans. I am not sure if the SAI is listed but it's essentially a direct copy of the Modern Sporter.

The SU16 can certainly be called a modern sporting rifle, but not similar to an AR at all.

Then you get into the other alternative modern sporting rifles, Bratwurst has a great thread about them. https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...-56-7-62x39-Black-NR-Rifle-Options-and-Prices

One of the newest AR styles that just received its FRT# not long ago is the Lockhart tactical raven in 5.56. Made in canada. Has top charge handle option also. Looks pretty awesome and all the features it has sounds even better. Supposed to be released early 2023 and you can pre order now. It’s about the same price or cheaper then the sterling arms depending what options you pick. Videos of the LTAC guys shooting it are on YouTube. Just another option to consider.

Depends what you want it for. You trying to plink, prep or hunt? ..or kill the most amount of people in the least amount of time?

Su16 mostly a plinker.

The way I look at it any semi auto in 223 that takes ar mags and has at least some aftermarket support is an ar platform in the current political climate, a lot of people are having success with the ar180 platform

I thnk that is fair, given our current circumstances, so long as you are discussing the AR180 clones. After all, AR = Armalite, and the AR180 was certainly an Armalite so your line of reasoning definitely apples to the Canadian-manufactured rifles. I wouldn't lump the Bren 2 or any other breed of STANAG-compliant rifle in with the "ARs" however, as they are distinctly different designs all of their own.

I second this, i've never dealt with them but one of my friends did and it was an absolute nightmare that spanned over months on just an ammo order.

I must also chime in regarding Lockhart's order fulfillment record. Nightmare is putting it miildly....

Stay away from the SU-16, that was a $700 gun and even then. I had one and hated that thing, actually I don't like anything from Kel-Tec. I tried a Sub 2000 and never shot it and can't imagine shooting it without getting a serious neck problem. The SU-16 has Nothing to do with an AR.

Su 16 I didn't expect much from it but it does shoot good , it's light,ar mags ( will hold 3 mags), semi auto. Feels cheep, rattles, it's bendy, can be finicky gas system, fit and finish no not really. Sketchy folding stock . At the time it was the cheapest auto ar platform type available. If you get the gas system right it has cycled and fired everything I have loaded in it straight shooter. Rang gun / pinker.

It's rly not an AR platform firearm, such as could be said about modern sorters from various manufacturers. I guess a su16 would function well, tucked into a bugout bag all folded up nice. But that's about the end of its practicality.
