What's a Good Powder for .45ACP

I am picking up some powder for my .45 tomorrow. I have noticed that the most accurate shooters at my club on IDPA night reload with Titegroup so I am going to try that.

I'm using 4.5gr's of bullseye with 230 gr copper plated bullets with excellent results.

I'm also using 6.5 grs 800X with 200 gr hp's and it's pretty accurate as well. It's not my first choice of powder as the large flakes don't meter well but I got it for free and it seems to work better than bullseye with 200gr bullets.

In the past I've also used Titegroup (I forget the load) it's fairly accurate but dirtier than bullseye or 800x. I've also tried bluedot and I wouldn't recomend it. It leaves unburnt powder all over the place and it wasn't accurate at all.

45 acp powder

i,ve tried quite afew powders in 45 in alot of differrent bullet combos.ww231 and hp38 with cast 200 and 230s. bluedot in acomped barrel with 225 grain copper wash and jacketed 230s.200 grain plated with winchester wap now discontinued worked great in my comp barrel. aa#5 but i found it to have to much muzzleflash and recoil felt higher.i`am now useing ww super target with 185 and 200 grn bullets.find a powder thats suits what your shooting and is always availible if in doors then you want something clean outdoors does`t matter much if your worried about smokie loads obscuring your vision shoot jacketed.Pretty much anything works in a 45 except really slow powders.
Experiement and find what you like.
cheers tornado

I really like Clays (NOT Universal Clays, just Clays). Impossible to double charge and very clean. 231 and Titegroup are also good but I always keep Clays on hand for my .45

I just bought some Universal from Clays International. Just curious if you had issues with it? TIA

Good luck finding Tightgroup. Higginsons told us recently they are backed up at the factory. If you can find it, buy it ;)

He's out again? Well, that's because of how popular that powder is.

Good thing I got a 231 load, spare 231 powder and powder measure set up for those dry spells.
