What's a realistic price for a Hall rifle and where would you look for one?

Hey everyone,

So I've decided I really want to spend some money on a Hall rifle.

I wanted to ask the hive mind what you all think is the expected price for one that's shootable in flintlock?

One member of the forum was kind to answer my questions about his Hall rifle

The thing is, I'm seeing prices in the USA on auction sites ranging from 900 to many many thousands in mostly percussion (conversions).

Also does anyone know any collectors or websites I should monitor and wait for one to pop up?

I've created an account a with this auction website that shows they have auctioned off a bunch in the past but none listed currently. I would love to obtain one for a self present for Christmas.

Also, if I can only find an affordable percussion does anyone know how hard it would be to convert back to flintlock using The Rifle Shoppe parts?

I met an oil-patch fellow about 40 years ago who got 2 of them out of Chile, sort of a thank-you for some geophysical work he did..

Seems they bought some when they came out, still had a rack of them. He got a long Rifle and a shorty; long Rifle was unfired. Both flinters.

Not much chance you could pry another out of them, but it's good to know that a few have not met with Bubba!
 
If you are patient and have the money I think your best bet would be to buy the complete Halls rifle parts set and have someone build it for you.Though it would be pricy it would the best Halls rifle for shooting.Also remember the Halls rifles were known for gas leakage even when in new condition so an original would have that problem and more so because of it s age
 
It wouldn't be difficult to find a Hall in the US and have it shipped up. Some large sellers are very happy to do this, others are too lazy and force you to needlessly go through a broker. I haven't looked lately but "Ancestry Guns" is one that ships up here with no issues and they often have one or more Halls in their inventory. I would guess you'd be looking at 2,000 plus (US).

If you keep your powder charge down to 50 to 60 grains of 3F, they don't seem to leak significantly. I haven't shot mine more than a few times but I think next time, I will go to 2F powder both for loading and priming. The problem with 3 F priming is that the vent hole points straight up and 3F trickles into the vent hole resulting in a delayed ignition. 2F shouldn't trickle into the vent as much although it will give a slightly slower ignition in my experience

Hey Chasseur, I was thinking of getting an original one or one converted back to flintlock to use as an example to build one out of the rifle shoppe parts set. And honestly I have no clue when I would receive the parts from the rifle shoppe haha

I found an auction site that sold Halls in the past at reasonable prices so I'm going to follow that website closely from now on.
