What's a reasonable number of pistols to own (per caliber) ? And what considerations would one take into account to justify building the collection ?

Is there some "condition" that would drive someone to keep adding more in the current political climate?

I know for competition shooters it's good to have a main and a backup, but where does it end?

Asking for a friend.

A reasonable number of handguns is equal to: the number of handguns you currently own +1.

As for justification, the only one required is “I want one”. I purchase many firearms simply because I think they’re neat, and have interesting or novel features, history, or other characteristics. Very few of mine have any major practical purpose, but I like them and appreciate them for the mechanical art they are.

Where does it end? Well it ends whenever you want, or not. You don’t have to justify to anyone else why you spend your money on things you like.

I don't know... maybe the reasonable number should the same math as the youngest woman you can date ?

"20 or ..half your age plus 10 ... whichever is greater" ?

If I want one and I don't have one - and I can find one at a decent price, I buy it. Don't keep track of numbers - but it's more than a few.

Less than 10 to avoid a raid!

That doesn't happen often, rumor spread by the gun community. As I at one point had over 20 restricted firearms and I never once got a visit from the CFO ( coming close to owning them for 20 years ) Father had over 10 for 30 years and same. Can't say in my circle ever heard someone getting a visit.

The official answer is "none".

That said, I must confess to being well over the limit. Between restricted and prohibited, I must own close to a hundred. The reason I'm not sure is that the number of prohibs keeps growing. I've never bought a prohib, but so many of my restricteds, non-restricteds and not-a-firearm -at-all's have beome prohibited that I'd have to do another inventory to make sure.

I see it like having kids. As long as you have the finances, the space to house them, and the means to continue to feed them, have as many as you want.

Then again...

There are those who can't afford them, don't have the space to house them or the means to continue to feed them, but still keep popping them out.

In either case...there's no better time than the present to add to the stable.

This. I probably have over a dozen CZs pistols alone. Owning under 10 doesn’t make you untouchable, it’s not like they say oh Jimbob has 9 restricteds, we can’t raid his house. If they want to do it they’re going to do it regardless.

If you wait until you can afford it or have the space for it, you will never do it.

Kids need your time, in the form of your attention and your guidance. That is it. None of that other $hit matters, especially if you don't have this first one (time, sub-divided into attention and guidance specifically) to give them.

My advice would be the exact opposite. Buy them, enjoy them, don’t live in fear of what the government *might* do at some point.

This!! I just found out last night that my 7 year old daughter really wants to get into handgun shooting. Her MnP blowback bb gun with a case of cylinders and 5k BBs is already in the mail!! (well, pretty sure they're closed atm, but the order is placed haha!!)

I make sure that every single person that ever comes over to our house, sees me with a gun. So far, every single one (except one lovely Nigerian lady, and I'm workin on her ;) ) has been positive and usually very curious and interested.

It's funny, how many Canadians don't even know you're allowed to own firearms in this country. Most have no idea that they're even legal. All that says to me, is that we need to take this fight right to our own front door.

Fair enough.

I know parents who are millionaires, live in big homes, but have zero relationship with their kids, who are now adults and want nothing to do with them.

I have raised my kids in a modest home, gone to all their events and programs, spend time with them daily and have dinners together and help them with their homework and sit around most evenings shooting the breeze on our couch. My oldest is in university and is asking his old man for day-to-day life advice and we can discuss pretty much any topic (last night he was asking about vasectomies). I agree that the time commitment is paramount and will pay dividends long term.
