What's a Savage 99C worth?

Yes, with a clip fed 99, there would be no feeding issues at all!

Speaking of 284s, did you see the Model 99 with two clips for sale here this past Sunday?

The 284's used a larger action and bolt IIRC.

Ya I was the second one to view the 284 when it went up in EE but he was asking a fair price for the gun, could have asked for more with the extra mag though.

You sure about that, Joe? I thought the action was the same size. Buddy of mine has one and it sure doesn't look any bigger.

He sure could have.........284 mags are rare!

Ted, I talked with Steve (Savparts) about mine a while ago before he retired, actually I just sent him another email yesterday but haven't gotten an reply yet, anyways, all the C's used basically the same parts except the 284. He quoted me a price of $60+ for a 284 bolt and I think the action was longer because the 284 has a longer case than the other calibers it was offered in, I'll go mic mine later and see for sure.

Oddbawl, Doug Murrays book on the 99 is an eaay way to learn the model designations or wait another 4 days and I'll send you a link to an article I just wrote on model designations that will be up on Savage shooters on the first of the month.

MadDog, I'd appreciate the article link when you have it up. I'm mostly a milsurp guy, but I'm mulling over wading in to a fine lever in .308, and these seem to be the only ones in that cal. I'm just looking right now, haven't even manhandled one before. I do like the looks of them though. Have you got any good links? I looked it up and Savage99.com was the only site I found. (not a lot of info there)

So is it a ridiculously broad and vague question to ask which models to be looking at? Kinda like the pre-64 Winchester thing- certain models to pass on etc?

Go with something with a pre-1,000,000 serial number, the 99's went to rat crap after they moved to Westfield.

The Utica and Chicopee 99's are the best, lever safeties and cut checkering.

Boys, FWIW, Ron bored out my 1899 for me awhile back for $260 cash. He does a great job and is one of the best barrel Smiths' from what I've heard.

Giterdun, if you buy that rifle and do this conversion, it is your moral duty to meet Ron, you will never regret it! I consider him a good friend.
