Not a lot sold + no longer in production + very good/excellent/new condition + buyer really, really wants one = pay the man what he's asking

OK let me rephrase that. To you it's worth $599. To everyone else................I have no idea.
Well first off I don't have a 12(6) so I don't know prices. I do have two Pythons (6" barrels) and a Colt .22LR Diamondback, so I do have some idea about Colts. Given that a restricted model of what you bought would likely run you about $1200 or so, I think $600 for a prohib would be in the ballpark.
Look at it this way. Every transaction does not have to be a deal. I have purchased lots of things which one wouldn't call a deal but I wanted them, I had the money and a deal was made. Be happy with your purchase and enjoy it. Many people would look at the fact that with a 12(6) you have the opportunity, that many don't, to buy up lots of great handguns that most of us can only droll over. If I had a 12(6) I wouldn't own anything else because of the ridicuously low prices that one can pay for for them. I recently purchased a brand name .44 Mag that was just barely restricted for almost $1100. You got one for half that only because of stuipid gun legislation rules
So to answer your question, yes I would have paid same amount you paid and maybe more, depending at the time, how much I wanted it.

There are many elements of truth in what Jody V says. But you must remember that the overall fact is that the gun is a prohibited class unit. Run-of-the-mill prohibs do not attact high prices unless [and this is the exception] they have a factory desireability that makes them stand out from all the other prohibs.
12[6] Pythons, Diamondbacks, Anacondas some S&W's, some exceptional Lugers, will be worth more, but only to someone willing to bite on the price.
So, as for your Colt, while it is a very nice revolver and does have some extra value over some prohibs, most of the prices that I have seen quoted before me are way too high. Without seeing it, a nice 4" Colt KC is worth C$250.00-C$300.00. Some, including me might go a little higher to say C$325.00-C$350.00 but that's about it.
Should you command and get a higher price, good for you, but don't hold your breath....
