Hey all,
Just throwing this out there to see what others think. I put out a WTB on the EE for an MTR stock. Had a couple replies and both asked what they're worth. One guy is local the other is 3 hrs out, so shipping is in the $20 range.
I offered $150. Is my offer fair?
Figured everyone might learn.
Cheers

That's hard to say, But I think that's on the low end, given the recent sale price that's now over, $150 for the stock might have been fair. but in accordance with the normal price of the rifle, I'd say that's low, I just payed $130 shipped for a CZ 452 stock that wasn't the nicest. I see 455 stocks going for $100-$150, The MTR is far nicer than anything anyone has listed, I wouldn't be surprised if people wanted $200 at the low end, If you get it for $150 you should be extremely happy!

I think $150 is very low. You'll probably get a counter offer($250) on that particular stock. They are nicer than the standard ones imo. So, once haggled, you're probably looking at $200 plus actual shipping cost.
If you're dead-set on that stock offer the Local guy $200 and be done. You'll get to inspect it in hand and shooting by lunch time (with the "new stock").......

I thought about listing mine after I put the rifle inm a chassis and was going to ask $200 plus shipping.

But I decided to pack it up and keep it. ;)

It's certainly not unfair. The most fair price in the eyes of the seller is the highest price that can be obtained. As the buyer, however, you are entitled to a perspective based on what's fairest to you. Reaching a compromise between the two is what's fair.

Something like an MTR stock probably doesn't have a defined market value. It's probably worth more than a T1X synthetic stock, which can be difficult to give away as a lot of T1X shooters wish to replace them. But how much more?

An important thing to keep in mind as a buyer is that you don't want to be in an auction bidding against yourself ("If you won't take $150, how about $160?"). Ask a potential seller what he wants for an MTR stock. You're not obliged to make an offer he can't refuse.

There's more than one MTR stock out there as many shooters replace them with a chassis, thinking that will deliver better results. If one seller wants more than you're willing to pay, wait for another seller.

My thoughts:
Below average wood grain - $150
Average: $200
Beautiful wood grain features: $250 - $300
All in the eye of the beholder I guess.
I find the stock somewhat uncomfortable as too beefy for me - granted I am not using for competition shooting.
I purchased a CZ OEM varmint stock for mine and paid the asking price of $150 for it and thought that was a good deal.
If I had to purchase something similar through Boyds it would be considerably more I suspect.

I’d say $150 + shipping is fair.

My logic:

Cost of the rifle - $700 (Average of reg & recent sale prices) x .8 = $560 for a used one.
How much could you sell a barrelled action for? I’ll bet $400-$450 you’d have a lot of buyers who were going to drop it in a chassis anyways. Difference of approx $150 give or take.

I think $150 is pretty low. There are limited options when it comes down to cz stocks. How much would it cost to import a Boyds stock from the states? Add exchange, shipping, taxes....
I think $200 for a "like new"cz457 stock would be a fair price. If the wood is a beauty, you might have to pay more.
