I have the possibility to buy a Winchester m70 xtr in 7x57, owner claims its unfired and has sat in the safe all of its life, with only some safe kisses from moving rifles around the safe. I saw some pictures and it indeed look unfired and in like new condition other than the safe kisses on the stock. So whats something like this worth?

Edit: Will these rifles handle heavier bullets well? 175gr ? Do they have long throats or a short throat like the newer FN m70s?

I don't know what that rifle would be worth, but a friend of mine has an 80's m70 xtr in 270. It's a great rifle. Fit and finish are perfect, had never had any trouble with it, and it is as accurate as they come.

650$ would be tops in my books. You start talking a grand may as well get a feather weight or a new super grade ..

Market dictates price..... A savage axxis is now $500..... Plus tax and shipping..... So there is your $650 right there....

And you think the unfired Winchester doesn't command more?....

To me $650.00 would be as high as I would go, Its not a pre 64, nor is it a late model manufacture which are a top quality rifle. The 70-00's are the least desirable years in terms of quality when compared to the early and late versions.

Here's a comparison, what would you guys think a 1981 Remington 700 Classic in 7X57 be worth? It is also unfired and still have the Remington oil on the metal. Also have the box. This is the first of the one calibre a year.

Seen one in Cabelas Edmonton in their used section, XTR also, banged up, sticker was $1399, it lasted about a week

There was one in the show room of the Barrie Cabela's listed at $999 and it sat there for months... they eventually sent it to another store... and that one was absolutely mint with nice wood... I picked it up and shouldered it and worked the bolt... nice rifle... not $999 nice though.
