I just purchased my friends entire collection, in it is an AR 15, serial number is mid 500, it is in emaculate condition, cal is 223, He said he paid $2000.00 for it a few years ago, can anybody tell me what it would worth today?
Thanx SS

depends, ARs vary awhole lot. Ive got about $6500 into mine, but you could easily get a good one used for about 1K.

Based on the serial number, it should be an SP1, probably from 1965 or '66. I don't follow the market prices that closely, but I would think $1200-1400 for a gun in excellent shape.

Again, pics will tell more of the tale.

It's restricted by name - any AR15 or 'variant' is deemed restricted via an Order In Council. Essentially, the gov't named it as 'evil' for no other reason than it looked evil. Don't try to understand... your head will hurt for weeks.

Yes, they still make this style of rifle... It's the most popular black rifle being made; it's probably safe to say that most everything is compared against the AR15 (and it's various configurations/designations) :)

They are restricted by name only - they look too scary (they used to be non-restricted once upon a time) :(

The triangular handguard (smooth not ringed) AR-15 was made by Colt (& Armalite) from 1960-85 or so.The AR-15 and variants are still made today but with ringed round handguards.

The civilian version of the M16 (C7 for the Canadian army) is the AR-15 which is a semi-auto version and is widely available in Canada by many manufacturers like:

Armi Jaeger (Italian maker of the 22LR rimfire & .32ACP version)
Armalite
Bushmaster
Colt
Dlask
Fulton Armory
GSE (Gun Smoke Enterprises)
Heckler & Kosch
Olympic Arms
FN (Fabrique National Du Belgique)
Norinco
Smith & Wesson

and many many more, list of all AR-15 variants:
